All GTA's got the quick ratio box's. 12.7:1 ratio.
You can probably get one built with an even smaller ratio. I've heard of rebuilt units with 12.0:1 ratios. if I were going to have one rebuilt I'd have it with a 12:0

well, i'm buying a gta in another month, and i'm planning on parting it. so far i'm grabbing the aluminum driveshaft and the swaybars, along with a few interior items, is there anything else i should grab as far as drivetrain goes? it has a 9 bolt with the 3.27 posi, but i'm selling that to a buddy of mine with another 89 gta

Kretos, to my knowledge no #'s on a steering box have ever been proven to show what ratio it is. There is no rhyme or reason as to what GM put the "quick ratio steering boxes" on what cars. I have heard of some IROCs without them and they are the top dogs when it came to handling from the factory.
What I do know is I do have one factory on my '87 RS.This car was a limited Calif Only car that year so the RS's were outfitted with a very good suspension package that first year. I even had stock 30/23 sway bars on it the light V6.
My turn count from lock to lock in just shy of 2.5 turns, or just short of 1 1/4 turns each way.

damn gm, they made such nice cars (camaros monte's novas cehvelles) but they did some of this stuff so half assed it pisses me off, i think i'll just grab the swaybars and the driveshaft and sell the rest, then use that cash to get the suspension and drivetrain to where i want it

The 2.25 lock-to-lock WS6 box should have 26000525 "Z" cast into the side. There was also a quick ratio box for Y87 cars with 15" wheels, but I can't remember the number- oh okay I'll look it up
... it's 7826692 .
You'll have to try to figure out if the box was ever rebuilt; I've heard of guys trading in their quick ratio box for a rebuilt, and getting a standard 2.5" lock-to-lock box back!
I have one in my basement but never put it on... one day, I swear, I will!

I dunno; I haven't put mine in yet.
But it sure couldn't hurt. While you're in there, replace the rag joint, too. See https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/sho...hreadid=185491 for pictures and part numbers. There's also some excellent tech in that thread for replacing the shaft bearing; I gotta look into that.
