exhaust question and funny/sad story
First here's the story...
So I was visiting my girlfriend's house, which is on a dead end hill. I decided to turn around at the bottom of the hill and park facing up, so I wouldn't have to turn around while leaving. Well as luck would have it, the ONE time I dont turn my wheels on a hill, like every good little boy is taught, my parking break fails. I was walking up her driveway when I heard a click... and the car started to roll. I ran after it trying to get in...I thought I had locked the doors... I hadn't, but it was too late. The car went over a curb; the passenger sider quarter panel hit a lightpost and the car bounced off. Well my exhaust pipes got stuck in the ground and the entire exhaust system was bent up under the car. In the end the only damage was a dent in the quarter pannel and a completely trashed flowmaster mufler and pipes. But to find out that the door was unlocked and I could have saved it is killing me. I guess I didnt have it in gear either, even thought I make such a habit of doing that when I park. Stupid accident, ahh... I threw my keys so hard when it happened I bent the ignition key, lol, I had to bend it back to get it started.
Now for the question:
I have to replace the exhaust obviously, but I am a student, and am really low on money. I'm not the owner who installed the flowmaster setup, in fact I'm not even sure what model it was. But now I need to replace it, with as little money as possible. I dont want to have to go back stock unless there is really no cheap alternative, I would really miss the sound. Does anyone have any good sugestions for me? Its a '92 3.1 by the way.
Thnx

Use 1.75" dual exits on a flowmaster 80, there is nothing that sounds better. I have heard these cars in person with Dynomax and I will blantently say that they sound kindof buzzing sounding compared to my car. My car sounds best at about 4500rpms with the flowmaster.
Muffler and tips install should only run you about $150-175 parts and labor- remember, 1.75" tips. You can see in my picture the reduction coming out of the muffler.

I had 2.5in. tips before, and the tips themselves might be salvageable, because they wern't bent, just a little scratched. So a replacement 80 series Flowmaster or equivalent muffler wont be too much? I have no prior knowledge on this topic obvioulsy. The car itself is sitting at a local muffler shop, I guess tomm I'll see what they have in stock and prices.
EDIT: J/K I had 3in. tips

Thats what it USED to look like, lol. Now... well its just depressing

If you have most of the parts needed and a new muffler. Most of them non-name brand muffler shops will install everything for
$50-60. Its worth it. Before I had a welder. No matter how well I did it, the pro install comes out nicer in the long run.
Just have most of the parts.
Parts is where they triple the price.
Labor is a set price by the hr.

DON'T USE 2 1/2" DUAL OUTLETS and you would change your opinion on how a flowmaster sounds in a heartbeat. They breathe great for a little 200ci motor, flow is not an issue as for which is better between a Flowmaster, Dynomax, Borla, etc. All the performance mufflers flow equally on our little motors without restriction- they are designed for motors twice the displacement.

You are spoiled Dean..
Guess that's my next step...ultralight Drivetrain, lol. I wish I could get a CF hood though (even though I have a brand new IROC hood in my gearage)

Nope, just older than you and have more disposible income to play with. Hard work and a few years, your day will come also. Best advice I can give is keep a less expensive car in life and trick that out. Its more fun to build a $5000 car into a $20,000 car and be one-of-a-kind rather than just buying a $30,000 car that anyone and everyone can own.
Most people buy their first car and have dreams of grandure, then once they get a career and earn a better income, the sell the car and their dreams change by just buying the most expensive stock performance car they can afford. Patience and time will produce your car into a very desirable classic that is more rare. I have owned mine for almost 13 years and I am now experiencing others taking a new general interest in it everywhere I drive it- that interest was unheard of just 5 years ago- My car was more a dime a dozen but with my age and hotrod experience, I new that dullness would pass in due time with this car. Now everyone wants it because it is certainly unique. I even have to watch where I leave it.
Best part about this car is I hardly drive it- so it lasts. I beat the livin crap out of cars. Fortunately, I married a woman that loves driving a car that is different from the yuppy SUV crowd and my daugther is well known arriving at school because of her "moms racecar" (7th grade now- Her name is "Mercedes"
) My career choice does not allow me to drive a sportcar daily (so I drive a sportstruck- not by choice though, by necessity) I tried to recently buy her a new 2004 Mini Coopers and she sternly refused- told her she could have two cars to choose from for daily use and in 4 years we would give it to the daughter (trying to keep the milage off the Camaro)- She insists on drivng the Camaro, she loves it.
PS - Funny picture of the wife and I here, I'm surprized the mods have left it

Dean, are you still running the stock track bar? (The bar above the panhard bar) I've never found an aftermarket one, so I'm curious if you have, in your remaking of the rear end.
