Don't mean to beat a dead horse... but...

I'm sure this topic has been discussed again and again./.. but i cant seem to find it on teh board.... so i'll ask it again...

the buick t-type engine was a 3.1 i presume... and if so.... would the trubo on it work on a 3.1 V6 in a camaro?

If this topic has been discussed before, please send me a link to it and delete this or whatnot... im not aiming to take up space.

I recently bought a 1990 camaro RS V6 to use to fix my 92 RS with from where it was hit, and I've grown a liking to the car. I dont wanna cut it up now. It runs and drives, and it sat in a junkyard for awhile... the interior is a bit messed up and it smells ungodly... but it runs adn drives. the driver ran into the corner of a high curb from the looks of the hit... the front end clip, the hood, and the right front fender will need replacing... adn thats all.... I really dont want to cut it up.... so im searching for a bigger basket case to fix my RS with... cause shes my baby.

i ask this question though because i dont want people to just be all sappy casue this blue camaro is a V6.... I would love to have such a haggard car whoop some 5.0 mustang bum.... y'know?

the buick t-type was a 90* 3.8liter v6, not a 60* 3.1liter, so, no, the turbo and related exhaust stuff will not work on your car.

There is a turbo setup for the 3.1 though. There's someone on here that has it.

What did you lower your compression to and where did you get your pistons?

I got the pistons from GM - I think they installed them back in '91 (aka, stock)

Lower the compression? 3.1 = 8.5:1 CR, 2.8 = 8.9:1 CR. We're low compression, as it is!

You're correct, for a T-Type Regal...I had two of them, fun cars. Back in the late 80s though, Buick used the T-Type name on other cars though...the Skyhawk T-type and the Somerset Regal T-type. I think the Skyhawk T-type had a 3.1 turbo, though it was FWD and the parts arent the same (it won't bolt on to an F-body RWD engine, without major mods). I don't remember much about the Somerset verison, other than Rocky Robertson built a Pro Street one in the late 80s with a Hilborn injected Stage II Buick motor! I'm pretty sure it had a FWD 3.8 stock.

The Turbo was offered by SLP Performance on specially marked cars. I believe they outfitted the W-body cars during the mid to late 80s (like 1987-1989). This included the Pontiac Grand Prix, and some Oldsmobile...

SLP never did a turbo anything that I know of. The w's where 89 and 90 and where done by ASC and McCleran and was only the Grand Prix.
