Update on engine dieing at idle...

OK...I know heat is'nt a factor because the car sat all day and I cranked it up only to run for 2 minutes then cut off.I cleaned out the throttle body and IAC passage to make sure there is no restrictions.Cranked it up...died again within 2 minutes.Unlpugged EGR valve connector and it ran a little smoother, but it still died.Cranked again, then unplugged MAP sensor vaccum line one time and the electrical connector another time with no change it the engine running for very long.Disconnected the TPS,idled higher but still died out on me.And here is the wierd thing. After the engine cutoff within 2 or 3 seconds, the engine wanted to "run on" AFTER the engine cut out as if it was burning gas to keep going. This has me stumped. No ECM codes whatsoever except when I disconnected certain sensors but I cleared those out.If it was the fuel pump, don't they either run or don't..no in-between?Could it be relays perhaps?ANY advice is appreciated.

I would say set the TPS to the stock spec, and pull out the IAC and clean the pintle. Theres threads about doing both of these and if you have a multimeter setting the TPS should b free, if not relatively cheap (price of multimeter). You can also try adjusting the IAC too. Not to sure why your car is still trying to run?? Someone else will have to fill u in on that.

Forget idle, how does it run when moving??? If its fuel related it will crap out at speed. Get it on the eway and crank her up and beat on it for a while.

The car cuts out even in drive.I cant go without it bogging down and finally shutting off.The TPS on this year is non-adjustable unlike the others.I can check the voltage perhaps but thats about it.I cleaned the IAC, but might try a new one. They are about $50 at Autozone.

Did you check your fuel pressure. With the car bogging (even in drive), I suspect a bad pressure regulator

I replaced the ignition coil and dist. module about 3 months ago unless the dist. mod went bad.Can I check the fuel pressure myself? What will I need? I noticed when the car cut off,I still heard a "hissing" sound and it seemed it was coming from the plenum. Is this normal?

I thought it might be the pressure from the fuel regulator?Or at least, that was the normal sound the fuel system made when the car was shut down.If a vacuum leak...where is the best place to start looking near the intake?

At the back where three of the hoses meet. A spray bottle full of water (or a can of WD-40) can help find the leak
