driveshaft measure in V6 700 R4?

Hey guys, I am working on my Berlinetta 85 V6 drivetrain and I just bought a new 700 R4 for replacing the old 350 this car has right now. Now the thing is, what driveshaft should I put now? a specialized guy told me that I need to get a new one because the current will not fit with the 700 R4 tranny, so I would like to know how long is your V6 driveshaft so I have a clue which one to buy. Thanks!!!

You're saying your '85 Berlinetta has an old TH350 as a trans? That wouldn't bolt up to the 2.8! You sure it's not a TH-200C? But even That doesn't make sense... you should've had a 700r4 in there already.

Any 2.8/700r4 junkyard driveshaft will work... actually you can take a V8 f-body's driveshaft, too.

Well, that is what the mechanic told me, what I can tell you is that the car has 3 speeds only, plus reverse. I am gonna take it to another mechanic to see if he thinks something different.
Lets see what happens... Thanks for all TomP, and you too Berlinetta85.

Okay, from what I'm reading you have an early berlinetta (82-84) that had the 85 drivetrain swapped in? That makes sense since 82 and 83 cars had the TH-200C. Mechanic is probably just assuming that since it's a 3 speed, you have a TH-350.

ANYWAY, hit the junkyards,. You need a v6/700R4 drive shaft, AND crossmember, AND torque arm. After you have all of that, you should be good to go. Replace any rubber parts with polyurethane components from energy suspension.

Might want to get the shifter and all related cables leading to the tranny as well.

Right but what TomP and I are trying to figure out is how you have a 3-speed trand in there. All automatic trans equipped cars after 83 (84 and up) got a 700R4. 82 and 83 had a 3-speed. They were all a TH-200C. A TH350 would not bolt up to a 2.8 v6 due to the different bolt pattern.

I'm suggesting that maybe your Berlinetta is an 82 or 83 with the MPFI added by a previous owner.

The car label on the door says it was built on 11/84, the car title says it is an 85, it could be a TH200, I do not know if the TH200 has Torque Converter Clutch but this one has it.

Alright its an 85. The TH200C that came in the 82 and 83 Camaros did have the TCC lockup.

Why anyone would remove the 700 R4 and put in a 200C is beyond me.

Well, what I think is that the former owner damaged the 700 R4 and putted a cheaper tranny to keep the car alive....does it make sense for you?

Sure does except he would of had to change out a bunch of other stuff as well (basically all the stuff I said you need to go back to the 700R4).

Anythings possible

Not all necessarily from a V6 car.

Good picture!!! And going by the pic, that's really freakin' weird then; the MD8 is the 700r4 trans. Huh. But you just have three speeds???

I wonder... could it be, and this is stretching it... but that you've got a 3-speed shifter and shift plate?? And you've really had a 4th gear all these years, but the shifter didn't let you get to it??

What's the tranny pan look like? Is it square?

Oh and when I dropped my trans out, I was able to pick it up; it's not 275 pounds. Unless I was stronger than I thought!

TomP, I just realized that the car has 4 speeds. The mechanic was wrong and I took care of this by myself.
So you picked it up?...the guy who sold that tranny to me said that it is about 130 lbs...max 150..lets see.
Thanks for your help!!!
