Maybe you guys can help i'm lost!

About a week ago i noticed my car was dripping a little bit of oil. It falls on the Y-Pipe and burns off. I have been looking for the leak but i can't seem to find it. I also noticed that the oil guage in our cars is reading around 75 for me almost touching the 80. What do you guys think this is? Want to fix the car before i start modding it.

My initial guess is that the oil filter isn't sealed up tight, and it's dripping oil from the gasket. What side of the y-pipe is it dripping from?

Is that a factory gauge? Maybe it's shot; does the pressure ever vary? Or is it always between 75 and 80 no matter what?

75-80 maybe if its a new engine but most run around 40 or less with some miles.

Check the seal around the distributor. That is the only time oil made its way onto the Y-pipe in my car. As for the oil pressure, what grade oil are you using? Also, the questions that TomP asked.

I use valvoline 20W50 oil. I used it on my old camaro and never had a problem. the guage is the one that came with the car. It ussually stays around that 70-80 range. And i know the filter is on tight as ****. And the oil falls on the oxegyn sensor side of the Y pipe. Distributor ring???

Maybe Valve cover?

The O2 sensors is prety far off to the side, but the last two times my dam crappy O ring was leaking the oil did drip down onto the the starter witch is in the area of the O2.

The easiest way I found to check for a leaky or ring was with a paper towl. Open your hood and go to the drivers side. Lean way the hell over with paper towl in hand press it around the base of the dist. If it comes back with fresh oil it is leaky. If it comes back only with old grim it's ok.

This O ring is the most retarded thign GM ever did. Followed close behind by the peice of junk oil sender (gone through 5 and need a 6th one). I have to replace my O ring every year, but then again I drive 48.000 - 53,000 miles a year in my Camaro. Well above the national avarge of 12,000 miles a year.

Hey ya know, Karl (KED85) said that a small block chevy's distributor gasket works too; I think he put both the o-ring and the v8 gasket on his dist when he rebuilt it.

Every parts store I went to said they didn't have a gasket listed for a Chevy SBC V8. They said they might be able to find one if I gave them a make, modle and year. So I gave them the make model and year for a '92 Z28. The funniest part was they said that the part number comes back to the O ring.

Fustrated and straped for time I bought 5 O rings and called it a day!
