Don't bash the 2.8. You will get slammed by many people. Its a great running motor. Last forever if you treat them well. Good Gas milage. Nice light weight. Very good motor

The more you tell about the engine, the more help you'll get.

Find a low mileage 3.4
TomP's Tuneup
Pacesetter Headers
Dynomax Catback
Custom CAI

Now you're outrunning most 305s, and out-of-tune 350s.

The only 2.8's that suck are the 85's and earlier.
By 87 they were refined to good little motors.
Best thing you can do for it is give it a great world class tune up. Change every thing you can like oil's, filters, plugs, wires, cap, rotor fuel filter and get a compression check.
Reset the timeing, play with it and see what your car likes. Don't settle for a stock timing set.
Make sure the timing chain is good.
Take it to a dealer and get them to do a good computer dignostic, some times they can find things wrong that don't thorw codes.
On my new 5.0 engine I did a good tune up and it was like getting a new engine and at the time it had less then 15,000 miles on it.
My LG4 305ci could mop the floor with my 2.8L.
I could stomp the crap out of my own car.
But with the new 3.4L with all this crap and with all the suspention stuff I have for it that is back home that I have not even seen yet I think the V6 might rule over the Z. (Heads, cam, ignition, suspention suff - not counting the turbo).

Im not bashin the engin but the thing is that my bud has an 81 camaro with the stock 305 and it is a decent car for power. The thing is that the v6 in my 87 isnt the original.

The hardest part for a lot of us has been finding the new engine.
