Proper handling of dual snorkel intake

I picked up a dual snorkel intake from Dave at ThirdGenUSA.com and I noticed these two covers on the bottom half under where the filters sit. They are held in place with a pair of small bolts and it seems that removing these will allow better airflow - so I took 'em out and put 'em in a box with the little bolts.

Is this pretty much standard procedure for these things, and has anyone cut out even more of the lower portion feeding to the filters for even better airflow?

I just cut the whole bottom off so the whole filter is exposed. What you took off were the rain guards.

So I did a little to open air flow and you did a lot. Gotcha, thanks!

i cut mine off and pulled out the plastic shields under the air filter box so w/ the filters out you can see the ground. i havent had a problem w/ the filters getting wet at all. cut em off and you might notice a bit more pull in the higher rpms, i did.

Hey Mike-in-Orange, Its Dean-in-Orange
Just cut them out completely, been that way for years. No problem at all in rain.

Here's a shot for underneath. They are wide open and the filters just drops in and sits on the top side lip.
