$660 burning a hole in my pocket

I got $660 to spend on my bird. What performance mods should i buy for it??

I already got
-accel coil, dist cap/rotor, accel 8.8 ignition wires
-jet 180 t-stat
-dynomax cat and catback
-custom cai/ k&n filter

I cant do a 3.4 swap or get a turbo till im 18 which is 3 years from now, so what bolt ons should i buy for the 3.1? Im preparing to car for a turbocharger (gearing, posi, suspension) I just want mods that will make more power out of the 3.1 till i get the turbo

personally, i would replace the shocks and struts if they need to be done. they are really easy to do and relitivly inexpensive.
same with swaybar endlinks, they are about 20$ and still easy to replace. grease them all inside before you put them in, and grease the threads of the new bolts good so its easy to replace in the future.

then i would get new front calipers and slider pins. calipers are only 18$ after core. im serious. and the pins are 7$
bleed and top up brake fluid

then i would go to the wreckers and buy a few sets of sensors. you will need them in the future. trust me, i go through tps sensors like mad, and i have 3 spare mafs. (your car is speed density, but my mafs are 300$ new, 20$ from wreckers.) get the hard plastic egr hoses too attached to the sensor.

then i would do a tomp tuneup, you can find it with a search. its pretty detailed.

the best mod is having a perfectly running car.

if you are so inclined and can do the work yourself i would port the heads.

after a carpet shampoo with the seats removed....

with whatever you have left buy mutual funds.

Personally...if you're going to do stuff like the turbo or the 3.4, I'd save it up and sit back on it and keep on adding.......it's NEVER bad to tell your friends...."Oh....I've got plans.....just you wait in a few years.......plans....BIG plans...big BIG plans!!! *maniacal laugh*"

Yes, the maniacal laugh is of course....optional...... though highly recommended.

it all depends on how much work you can do yourself. you can do a posi and half left over if you can do it yourself. if not, you can do a posi and be done. thats what its really gonna depend on, your mechanical abilities.

I live in maryland so i dont kno if its smog country or not

I have two problems with getting headers

1) Are the a.i.r 3.1 headers avaible yet?
2) I hear some people saying that headers make the v6 sound more ***** than deep resembling a v8.

660 bucks can get you a v8 at the scrap yard. if yours is bad.. OR save for somthing bigger and better.660 is alot to start saving with you can just about get anythin you want when you double that or triple that amount that you have.... Turbo set-up you could get also a low shot of NOS .. like a 50 or a 75, when you adjuest your set up for it alittle bit.

I would just save for a bigger engine or forced induction w. a v6 lilttle bolt ons arn't gonna get you were you want to be.

IMO

Ps. i never drove a v6 camaro so i cant really tell you ANYTHING... but if its anthing like my LG4 its slow. . and thats why i got 4,500 in the bank and still saving threw summer so i can get a 350. And w/ 2 full time jobs and no bills to pay(besides insurance and cell phone,gas)... it will add up faster than i know it..

Or, could start up a Roth IRA. And I think if a Series EE savings bond is used to pay off higher education costs, the earnings are interest free- but I'm not sure so check first.

Anyway, I think rear gears are the best bet. Not sure if you're going the turbocharger route if you'd want lower gears (like 3.42 or 3.73), or higher gears. I'd assume you'd want lower; for more off-the-line push, tho.

You could always try to get a 3.42/open/drum rear from an 85-89 2.8 automatic f-body in a junkyard, and put a $400 posi into it. Then you get lower gears AND a posi. (Your factory gears are 3.23's, right?)

Ouch, talk about a stressful job! I might have to take you up on that one day. Hey should I sell some HD to buy my headers?

Last 3.4 mentioned got the person $650.
59,000 miles on the used long block.
I read you said no 3.4 "for now".
Go find another 3.4 (this $650 3.4 scored in Eastern PA area SO CLOSE to you!).
Have fun destroying your old 3.1!
Then Casually mention you got a friend willing to give ya an engine and.....
Serious, $660?
Buy stocks!
Toss it in bank!
SAVE IT!
Then go earn some more money for the small things ya mentioned.
Don't worry about headers, they are coming soon.
Send an email to Mr. Fred Gerle expressing your interest in the headers for a 1991-1992 3.1 set up.
fgerle@pacesetterexhaust.com is his email.

Right now im just getting my car prepared for a turbo or supercharger. dont want a 3.4 because if its 9:5:1 compression i rather have the 3.1's 8:5:1 because im adding a turbo or supercharger NO V8 OR ENGINE SWAPS. Will headers make the 3.1 sound worse or better

Since I am "header man" on here. Below 2000rpm, it soundes better. Above 2500 or so, it still sounds kinda v6'ish.

This is with a dynomax catback, and offroad y-pipe.

Before buying headers, make SURE you are not in smog county. Because they will fit on a 3.1 but are not paperworked for that. And you have to remove the smog pump, make a special alt bracket and custom belt length.

if ya were in pennsylvania, you don't need the paperwork for that stuff as far as i know, they just want you running below certain levels of emissions. this is atleast what my uncle told me while i was home(ase certified mechanic). so fortunately for me, even if i were in a smog controlled area, it wouldn't matter, cause he inspects and "tests" my vehicles for me!!! bye bye smog control b/s for me

ok, since I was first to mention "save it". The person is obviously young, and odds are against him that he will have this car long enough to make any parts costing 660 bux worth it. You've done about what I would suggest. Keep it clean, pimp the car like the american classic it is, even if its not a v8. The cost of living keeps getting higher, and the american dollar is quickly becoming worth less.

The jetchip, you might as well throw that money in the trash, or burn it before your eyes. I had one, didnt do chit. If you want a chip, have a custom burnt one done for your sea-level, mods, and gas you use.

i kno the aftermarket chips suck unless u get a custom one. Yes im keeping the car forever i love the car and its like my second girlfriend i got 1400 saved for insurance 440 saved for 4 new tires, getting steering knuckles fixed, tag fees. So i dont spend everything on performance i do save for house/ other things. Im only 15 so i only pay insurance, gas, cell phone. I just wanted to kno what are the best mods for $660.
