Axle/Gears: No idea ATM
DriveShaft Question

ok, so i took out my driveshaft when i did an engine/tranny swap, and the bolts for the retaining clips to the differental yoke got lost, anybody know the size of these bolts? autozone, adavance, an napa didnt know, i can always go to the junkyard an grab used ones, but id rather get quality parts, thanxz for any help

I think there are only 2 different sizes for them. Just grab both and one should do the job for ya.

I'd trust used OEM parts for these before a hardware store bolt. If you can easily get them from a junkyard do so. They are not the normal run-of-the-mill bolt.

yeah, i wouldnt worry about junkyard pieces, since we arent exactly turning ungodly amounts of torque or hp through them, lol..... well most of us arent

you could call a dealership and they could tell you, but they could also charge you $5 a pop and have to ship them from michigan to california. lame.

if you really want i can go out tomorrow and look, i dont think ill have the driveshaft back on yet. but i would reccomend getting some oem bolts. im pretty sure they are the same bolts used for the service cover on a 700r4 though, if that helps.

just go to the parts store, and tell them what you need. That is an item they sell at about any parts store.

I have the HELP ones on my Firebird and they have not snapped at all when i redo my gears i am going to use the ones moroso makes but the HELP ones are plenty strong trust me and they run like 4 bucks.

Just look at the head of the original bolt and get one rated the same or higher. Bet most everything on a GM is grade 5

everything that would ever need to be grade 8 has been grade 8 on my car, gm at least didnt skimp on fasteners.

5/16"-24 X 1 1/2" if i remember correctly. i recently bent the stock ones while moving the vehicle with them loose and the tranny in, but the engine out... quick trip to the parts store and i was good as new!

do u mean u joint bolts

hi bro! im a lil tired been wrestling with a tranny for a newer model box van .,.,.,but if i understand you correctlyyou are talking about the u joint bolt's if i am right there are 4 of them,.i dont know if this helps but i believe the wrench i used on them was a 10 mil,..,,.., any way your probs could be worse i just got home 3am and i was instalin a new transmission for a good customer,.and every thing was going good dropped the old one getting it out from under the truck was tricky., also getting the new one in but got done no prob so i decided to finish the job.,,. hooked every thing up did all the tidious stuff and realized the yolk does not go in all the way witch would not be a prob but the fact that i cant remount the carrier baring just plain sux.,.,but tomorow is a new day.,.,ill give the coustomer the run down tomorow., either we can drop the tranny and see if another new one is the same., or custome fit the carrier to the moutnig spot .,.,like an adapter plate,.., or straint cut the yolk shorter [hehe] .,,. any how just be thankfull your problem is not worse
