umm how do you think a v6 firebird with 166k miles is worth 3000
i paid 300 for a 92 firebird t-tops v6 130k and no rust a brand new tranny rebuild engine and brand new goodyear assurance triple tread tires
all it needed was a front clip like how your car now is
i found a full front clip for 100
and you can buy brand new fenders from certafit for 40 each
and the bumper for 120
i paid 1200 for a 91 camaro hardtop v6 with 93k needed a buff and some bodywork
im sorry but if you think you can get 3k out of your car your insane
now medical is differant but really id say at Most your car was worth 1500 before the wreck
alignment and front end work would be maintenace not added value of the car

well, not necessarily. The suspension/steering was acceptable... but I went in to make it feel like a brand new car... something that many people probably wouldn't do. New steering column, steering box, tie-rods, center link and the works. Most people just wait until something fails.
And it's not just a 166k firebird... it's got a rebuilt motor...
anyways, after I paid to keep the old car, the exact check was $1972... like $150 lower than I thought I'd get...
If you check on autotrader, there are plenty of these cars selling for like $2500+
they gave me NADA + $175 for the motor - $700 for current condition - $150 for salvage buy-back.
that means they consider a stock 1990 Firebird with 166k miles worth $2647, according to NADA. If I had my bumper painted, and a back seat cover, I would have gotten that extra $700... oh well.

sorry to hear that man.
I still have a numbness/tingling that travels down my leg to the bottom of my feet. The cyatic nerve was pinched during the accident. It's getting better over time, but taking MUCH longer than I ever imagined.
I'm glad that I am keeping my firebird, because for $1000, I can get the tranny totally rebuilt, and for another $500 I can have it looking tip-top.
Although, I think I will soon be in a 1999 Trans Am.... but I will also have the 3rd gen...

your cyatic nerve will NEVER heal completely. I have a pinched nerve, and unless you get surgery the shots will only dull the pain for a little bit of time.

I haven't had any shots, and I only took Celebrex for about a week. It didn't do anything. I'm not in serious pain, I can just feel the tingling.
A good comparison, is that my leg feels like it's got a slight leg cramp, at all times. It seems to get roughly 5% each week... extremely slow healing.
The pinched nerves in my back seem to get better, then flare up... keeps happening. I've NEVER had a problem with pinched nerves... I've had like, one, my entire life... now all the sudden, I get like two or three a week, and it may even be the same one each time....
nothing too serious, but I can feel the sharp pain every time I breathe.

Riding a bicycle helpped me allot with my cyatic. Use to make my whole right left go funky. Started on a BMX then quickly went to a full supension MB. The pedal action helps stretch it out. It made a world of difference.

Yeah, stretching out that area really helps... I just do stretches, and the chiropractor has tables with rollers and whatnot that help stretch it out...
I doubt that anything I'm doing is helping it heal... I think it's just going to take time... or so I've heard/read many times.

The thirdgen gods are not happy with me... first I get in a wreck, then I go around them and get myself a fourthgen ws6! I better watch out!

Just thought I'd let y'all know that my back is slowly getting better but every couple of weeks I get a flare-up and it hurts quite a lot... especially when driving...
hopefully I can settle this thing in the next couple of months...
how much do you guys think I should get? I spent about $1100 at the chiropractor... and I lost roughly $1400 from work...
the chiropractor told me when I 'finished' treatment, that the standard in the industry is twice what you spent/lost.. to get the total, WITH pain-and-suffering...
but now it's been 5 months of on/off back pains... so I don't know what I should ask for/expect to get.
All I know, is if my back doesn't get CONSIDERABLY better in the next month, I'm getting one hell of a lawyer.
thing is, doesn't Insurance only have to cover like $20,000? What if another chiropractor tells me that I will have to live with ciatic nerve problems for the rest of my life?? $20k wouldn't help at all if I have to buy expensive pain relievers down the road... I mean right now, I'm young and I can handle it without medication... but when you get older, you have other pains... so that will just make everything worse...

Get one heck of a lawyer now. Problem is this will cost you more and more ever year you get older. Each year it will effect your working life more an you can now be hurt easier. Sucks is its harder to get long term care like this. If you got hurt on the job, you can get free doctors n drugs and some cash every week, or settle for a lump sum nd your done.
My messed up buddy is like that. For a long while he got $700 a week and now he just gets free doctor n drugs. Which cost big time cause he get a varity pack of heavy narotic drugs so he can get through life. He eats a couple of perks to get the oxy 80 going then he needs valum and somas to come down and sleep. Toss in some opium patchs on the pain spots.

good ***... I don't think I'd ever want that kind of life...
did your buddy have little or no pain a few months after the accident, only for the pain to resurface decades later?? or was it an on-going problem?

Scrapmaker, you really need to kick this in high gear or you probably will have pain for the rest of your life. The poor circulation and numbness is just going to get worse and cause more pain in other places. My back pain started out just like yours and eventually started to effect more then just my legs and feet. Now for example I cant drive long distances without my arms going completly numb. My right hand is the worst, 90% of the time I cant feel my pinkie finger and lower half of my palm. I can smack my hand aginst the desk wont feel a thing. this is 100% caused by the accident but I'm on my own.
As far as settlement your attorney will tell you when your getting the best deal possible

From what Ive been told, surgery on the back is more risky then what its worth.
I still get a sore from time to time, and mine was 10 years ago. Its mainly when I do heavy lifting, sit for extended time, stressed. All which on there own will cause problems, but surly my wreck has added to the cause.
Up to you what you do, but you WILL live with neck and back problems the rest of your life, there is no true fixit solution.

Yeah I have been to a doctor and a chiropractor...
the chiropractor told me that the treatment wasn't really doing anything for the injury, and that time itself was really the only cure in my situation...
overall I feel better than I did at the beginning... and the official prognosis from the doctor said that it would take roughly 6 months for my injury to completely heal (starting Jan 1st,) and that during this time, I would have on-and-off irritation... which all makes sense... and is the only reason I haven't jumped on the lawyer bandwagon yet...
I am, however, going to see the chiro again and ask him if in my (specific) case, with the amount of time that's passed, if he still thinks I'm going to heal completely... I may have them re-write the prognosis that I gave the insurance company...
All of the professionals that have examined me have told me that sugery would be TOTALLY unecessary, and highly risky... could leave me paralysed, consider the ciatic nerve is what controls the legs...
right now, depending on how I sit in a chair, or drive my car... my left leg falls asleep pretty bad sometimes... when I have flare-ups, which seem to be every couple of weeks, the area where the ciatic intersects the spine, (tailbone area,) feels pretty sore...
I can't normally tell what causes the flare-up... maybe I stretched funny when reaching for something, or I sat funny or slept weird... but now consistently, every time I go out with friends, and end up standing for a long period of time, I'm in a bit of pain for at least 3-4 days afterwards...
It's just that ANY excercise... push ups, crunches, running, etc, all seem to irritate it worse... and if I can't exercise, I mean that would really affect my life...
either I deal with the pain (which for now is really more of an annoyance, it doesn't feel like I'm dying or anything...) or I just DON'T do anything...
I prefer the pain myself...
damnit I guess I should get a lawyer sometime soon... I hate lawyers...

At least speak to one because I'm pretty sure you can drop the case at any time if it gets better, but there are statutes on how long you can wait before proceeding with further legal action. There is a finite window of time to act on here.

I think it was 3 in Mass but I can't remember, damn slamming my head against the driver side window and being knocked out when the front left tire fell off a company truck on the highway.
When I got hit in my 95 cavalier I don't even know what it KBBed for but they were gonna give me $1700 for a car I paid $400 for and the $1700 was with a deduction because of the 190k miles on the car. I mentioned the motor was a newer one from a junkyard and they just offered $2300 and I keep the car. I took it, fixed the brakes in the rear of the car and sold it for $500. Best car I ever had.
As far as what the insurance company covers I think that's more on what the other person has and it's usually $50k or so I thought. After that I don't know if you can go after the person or not. At least find a good lawyer and talk to him and see what he thinks. Get a few different opinions doctor wise, back specialist, exhaust every resource. Insurance company's paying for it. Tell your doctor you'd like to see a specialist just to be sure or something. I'd be going to every medical professional that had any knowledge of the affected areas and just mailing in the bills to the insurance company.

hehe that's a good idea and all... the only problem I face is that the insurance company will only pay me when the settlement is done... so any 'specialist' I go to, I pay out of pocket...
unless I get a lawyer... which I probably will if I decide to go this route...

screw that, I honestly would tell the doctors that it's from an accident and the insurance company is going to pay it. Or I'd just not pay it, they cannot refuse you medical treatment. Keep a notebook or folder of all the bills, make copies of ALL of them and give all the copies to the insurance company. Make damn sure all paperwork your sending them you have a copy of in case it goes to court. At this point if it were me, I would be at a good attorny's office getting them involved. By not exhausting every resource for treatment your potentially screwing yourself because someone else is a moron.

This next week I'm going to seriously research a good lawyer... getting tired of this... the insurance guy called me to see about settling... I guess he wasn't listening to me when I kept telling him my back was hurting...
I mean, how do you put a price on having horrible back pains for the rest of your life?? I sure as hell don't know how, but it had better be a ****load of money, that's all I can say...
