Oil Pressure loss

There is a clicking noise when the car heats up. We took it in and the mechanic said that it was enternal and had something to do with the Oil pump or somethign similar. He said when the car heats up the oil pressure drops which in turn makes the clicking noise... no oil leaks and there is plenty of oil in it

hook up a mechanical oil gauge (wal mart, $6) and see if what he is saying has any truth.

If it is low oil pressure, it could be cause by many things... Sloppy clearances, bad oil pump, clogged pickup, damaged lower distributor to name a few.

Could be lots of Internal things causing oil pressure drop. First thing to do is to grab the cheapo mechanical gauge, these electrical ones arent known for their accuracy or reliability.

oil pressure should haunt you at all temps.

First thing I would do is change the oil and use 4 quarts oil of and 1 quart of tranny fluid as it could be a just a sticky lifter.

if it doesn't cure up, id say your over heatin just not boilin over.

My mom ruined a car like that once. The rad was bad but it didn't boil over, just got real hot and would tick. So she would dump oil in it every time. Around 11-12 quarts of oil it bent a rod.

what kind of oil do you run in it?

As for the tranny oil, he's talking about ATF, it has detergents in it that really do a good job of cleaning crap out of the lifters.

Ya know for now I would just get some cheap oil, what ever is on sale. Go walmart shopping. You will want to change it again soon. say in 1000 miles, espically if it start to get better. Get the garbage out of the system.

I run thicker oil but right now you just want to clean. So I would stick with a thinner oil to flush better. Though thicker oil will provide some better cushion for the tick.

Since I have high milage(240K Miles) I run 10-30 all the time. I would go to a thicker oil, like 10-40, just to see what happens with the tick.
