WOT stuck! HELP Please.........
Went out to the car (89 RS 2.8 MPFI V-6) this morning to go to work, Starts up fine, runs good, (still got idle problems but still haven't gotten the MAF sensor or adjusted the IAC so timing is a little off. $$$ problems) I put her in gear and start to go and get on it a little at the corner, and all of a sudden it's off to the races! Lift off the gas but she's still screaming at 7,000. Get on the brakes and the peddel is hard as a rock. Pump it and the peddle starts to go down and the front wheels lock, but I'm sliding forward towards stopped traffic. Get on the gas hard pumping trying to knock it loose, and threw it into Park and shut it down. Start it back up and everythings fine. Go into drive, idling along, we're ok, it shifts fine 2nd then 3rd. Trying to keep up with traffic get above 3,500 rpm's and it starts hauling *** on her own again. This time two kicks of the throttle plus braking knocks it back down to idle. Pull over and pop the hood. Everything is fine. Hand rev the throttle at the intake, nothing gets stuck. Check the floor for anything getting the gas peddle stuck, Nothing! Get back in put it in gear, drop it to first, spun a quick 180 at WOT (only way you can in these 2.8's) Let off and the everythings ok. Put it in Drive, got on the highway again, did the same damn thing. Keep it under 3,500 rpm's and it's ok. Just takes a bit to get up to speed. But over 3,500 rpm's and she wants to go on her own, and there's no brakes either. I've checked vacum lines and they're all good. No leaks found, mostly new hoses on there to. Brake fluid is fine, trans fluid is good to as is oil. So what the *&^%? Please help. I have to drive it home.
Sorry so long, just needed to explain so you have an idea of what happened to point out what it might be.

throttle sticking
The throttle stuck on my car 2 months ago because it got caught on the clamp bolt that clamps the air intake to the throttle body at half throttle or more. I ran inbetween houses through two courts into a electricle box through a bike path finally got it to get unstuck. Cost me a front bumper cover repairs, new fender, ground effects, headlamp cover, headlight assembley and hood. One thing i got out of this incident was a formula powerbuldge hood nice hood but not worth having your car down for two months and pay for all that body work. Get that thing checked out until then i wouldnt drive it.

My dad used to have an '87 oldsmobile cutlass ciera with the Gen II 2.8l mpfi, and the bushing wore out for the throttle body's butterfly. It was hard to push on the gas (really hard!) and sometimes it'd get stuck.
A shop tapped in a new bushing for us, but the same thing happend again a few months later.
So I put a junkyard throttle body in it and the car worked fine until we junked it. Maybe try replacing the TB and see what happens. Also, work the TB butterfly back and forth with your hand and see how it "feels".
Oh and I know nobody mentioned this yet, but check the floormat. If it wedges up under the gas, it'll keep the pedal down! Happened to me once at a light, freaked me out until I looked down at the floor mat. Once I pulled the mat back, everything was Ok again.

Thanks everyone. Yeah I practiaclly threw the floormat out the window thinking that was it, but it wasn't. Drove it home very carefully last night. Only got stuck at WOT once. I'm gonna look into the butterfly on the TB tonight. Also did it this morning and left about 30 feet of rubber on the road as (from my idle being off and it almost died) I got on it when traffic started to move after the light changed to green. But one hard push on the gas kicked it back down. I'll oil up the cable and checking the connections to the TB. Hopefully it's something dumb like build up that WD-40 or carb cleaner can take care of or an adjustment. Anything else I don't have the money for right now. (Friggn X-mas)

Does it scare the crap out of you when it gets stuck at WOT? Mine starting to get stuck where it's hard to push on it if you take your foot all the way off and back on....... I'm worried it's gonna get stuck at WOT one time

Next time it does it, slap it in neutral, and see if it just free revs like crazy - I'm leaning more toward a really bad vacuum leak, myself... check the hose to the power brake booster, and have the booster vacuum tested.

'85, I like that idea best! And then he can come back and tell us what it was!
Ever hear of those people who get stuck at WOT and burn out their brakes trying to stop the car and wind up crashing? I always wondered why they don't just shut the car off...
