multipule questions.

One of these didnt get answered in gen tech, maybe someone here will answer.

1. When data logging on the ecm, where does it get its timing and rpm readings from? ICM, Coil, elsewhere? I know the tach comes off the white wire of the coil.

2. When the ecm goes into "ses" mode, why does it automatically dump in more fuel causing even richer conditions?

3. Since its known I had debris in my gas. Co worker thinks that will driving the car before finding this, but post changing my o2, I have contaminated my new o2 sensor. Agree, Disagree?

4. Driving my car while its better, it still has problems (randomly). It tends to be getting better every mile I drive it? Why? Where should I be looking, or anything I could do to speed up the "healing".

5. Who was the board member that said they might have some 17lb injectors forsale? Are they a matching set? Cause I have 11 but none to make a matching set :sigh:

6. Anyone know of any good material I could put around the base/seal of my egr valve to prevent it from blowing the gasket it.... more/again? So I can put it back on and quit getting a code32.

That is all for now, maybe more later.

dale try some .090 aluminum for the gasket on ur egr valve or thin copper material, i use aluminum header gaskets and collecter gaskets and have never had them blow out, so im sure they would work fine for ur egr valve

its not where the egr mounts to the headers. Its an internal gasket in the egr. I dont know how to(or want to) take the egr apart to replace that gasket.

1. The ECM gets it's RPM signal from the ICM which gets the original signal from the pickup coil.

2.When the SES light comes on it goes into "Limp" mode, causing a rich condition full time because running too rich is ALWAYS better than running too lean. It's to avoid possible engine damage when there is something wrong that might change the fuel delivery.

3. Very possible.

4.Did you have the injectors cleaned and the screens replaced? How about replacing the FPR. Some debris might have gotton stuck in it causing problems.

5. Wasn't me...lol

6. Don't you have an electronic EGR? There's no seals in them, they're just solenoids that plug passages. Now, if you do happen to have a vacuum controlled one, if you keep blowing out the rubber/base gasket, then you have WAY too much pressure in the system. I would check that out first.

2.8boy.

1. thats what I was thinking.
2. Got it, ugh.
3. thanks
4. nope, never had a set cleaned. I've swapped the FPR as well.
5. got it.
6. yes, its digital EGR. I'll snap a pic this weekend when I get the loaner camera. Trust me, its got internal gaskets that blow. This is the 3rd one thats blown in the same spot. I got tired of paying 200 for the things to last 3-6 months.

Hmmm...tha't snew to me...learn something new everyday I guess. I would like to see the pic, that way I'm aware of it and can recognize it later on down the road.

Check the backpressure in the exhaust system. You should have <2 psi in there, which shouldn't be enough to cause the seals to blow out.

pic as promised. Had to test this loaner camera out before tommorow anyway.

Edit, and I dont have to much pressure in the exhaust. Headers, offroad y-pipe, and catback.

I would check anyway. I don't know the last time you had the cat off and looked inside, but since you were having a bad misfire because of all the crap inside, it might have at least partially clogged it. Just a thought because those gaskets don't just go bad over and over and over. If you've gone through a few of them, there's something forcing it's way through it.

Might have a warped EGR flange. I know my Volvo has a warped exhaust manifold so it just blows out gaskets like they wern't even installed. I just gave up...lol

Just trying out some thoughts here. Gotta cover all the bases.

double, tripple gasket with some indian head gasket sealer.
brown bottle. Some nasty sticky stuff that will seal even the nastiest warp leak.

Got a gm egr at the junk yard today

Found R-bobs 280-150-901 injectors

Later today, going to get a new o2 sensor and egr gasket.

Install all that with new fuel filter tommorow and see how she runs.

YES

New fuel filter in, no issue with old one.
New o2 in. "old" looked nasty, but ive seen worse reading properly.

Checked my plugs since "plugs never lie". I'm getting a random miss fire on #1. So I gotta decide what route to take to find that problem.
