T-56 behind a 3.4l

I know this has been beat to death but I was just wondering if a 93 t56 would work? I just found some gear ratios from another post and it seems like the 93 t56 is damn close to the 700r4.

Ratios and such:

trans............1st....2nd.....3rd.....4th....5th.....6th.....R.....TQ rating

'93 M28........3.36...2.07...1.35...1.00...0.80...0.62...3.28.....350ftlb
'93 M29........2.97...2.07...1.43...1.00...0.80...0.62...3.28.....400ftlb
'94-'97 MN6...2.66...1.78...1.30...1.00...0.74...0.50...3.28.....450ftlb
700-R4.........3.06...1.63...1.00...0.70......................???......????

Didn't know if a 93 would work if you could somehow make the adpater plate for the 3800 series II.

heck i think that would work even for my 2.8, even more so on the highway cause i am running 3000 at 70 and it dont even shift down on hills. so if i could get that high of an OD i could get a lower cruze RPM correct?

You can get trans adapter plates to bolt anything to anything.
Only limitations are can you afford it.
[I know a guy who made a FWD dodge intrepid into a RWD with a T56 for a trans. Intrepid engine sits normal and body was stamped for RWD, trans tunnel and drive shaft tunnel are there but not used]

Here is some T5 info

Gumby, seen the first link, but not the second.

I'm under the impression that the v8 and v6 gear ratios are different. I cant find anything except that 4th is 1.00, and 5th is .76?

I'd be killer to get that 4.03 first

yes they are different i know cause there was a big argument with a guy who wanted to put a T56 on an iron duke on this site a while back. It had links to what you want to know but now i cant find that topic.

the best and cheapest tranny choice would be a T5 out of a LB9 V8 engine car with a 2.95 1st gear and a .63 5th. BUT I would recommend that with a 4.11 rearend.

With that setup you have a close ratio 1st-4th and can utilize all 4 torque gears above 1:1 ratio in the 1/4 mile up to about 93mph @ 5000 if the motor ever gets capable. AND you can still cruise in OD (5th) with the 4.11's on the freeway at 75mph @ 2500 rpms

BeA compatable T56 choice to the T5 /4.11 would be the '93 M29 you posted above with those same 4.11 rears.

The best T56 setup would be the MN6 with 4.56 rears- even with very high 4.56's, you still have a top speed of 142mph @4250 in tall gear so I would not go any lower than 4.56's with that mn6 T56 tranny.

I wonder if a Ford T5Z would be a good choice fro him as well since it has better gears and is much stronger. First ratio on that is 2.95. Its also much lighter than the T56.

Yeah, the 4.03 1st gear + turbo = ridiculous wheelspin

Hey, I only blew it up once!!

Having run 4.56s and 4.11s with a T56 before, I really wouldn't recommend 4.56 gears. It was a lot of fun on the low end, but even with a well balanced aluminum driveshaft there would still be some driveline vibration at high speeds. Driveshaft critical speed is the major issue with a 6 speed and that much gear. The 4.11s were great all around.

You could launch 2nd just fine porbably, plus get more time before a needed shift to wind the turbo up.
