v6 tranny
hey i bought a firebird and it needs a new transmission and mayebe a new differential.
how hard is it to take the tranny out and put it back in... is there anything i am probably going to have alot of trouble with?
and another question that has nothing to do with the tranny..
the 2.8 engine runs great beside the transmission.. do you think this car is capable of doing good donuts on a dry or slightly wet surface?

used trans from junkyards run anywere from 175-300
it takes me an hour to swap out a trans in a v6/v8 camaro,as long as u have all the right tools its not very hard to do
u could prlly do donuts on wet ground though v6 cars dont have posi's so its a lil harder to do

make sure before u buy it, not all v8 cars came with posi rears, also find out the gear ratio in that rear if it is diff from what u have now u will need to get the correct spedo gear for the trans. or ur spedo wont read right

plus if you end up with the 2.73 posi you wont have enough torque getting to the ground to even spin both the tires. 3.42 or 3.27 will be hard enough with the posi on a stock engine.

im just guessing, i dont think anyone ehre has bothered to put posi on a stock v6 engine. i know with my auto tranny i couldnt spin the tires at all, although my back tires were pretty huge, which doesnt help. its easier to spin the tires when there is a side load too though(like doing a donut), so who knows, it could happen. just put some 205s or something on there and keep the air pressure up high to make the contact patch smaller. there's a big traction difference between 46 psi 205s and 34 psi 255s.
