What was a trans problem became an everything problem

Alright, so the car has been broke since halloween night. Before then it was making so much noise I thought it was gonna die anyday so it didn't come as a surprise. Well, when it went what happened was for some reason the engine completely locked up when I went to leave my girlfriends house. I went to start it and it turned over a few times then it just stopped. Dead lock, like you could hear the starter try to engage but nothing was rotating. So I put it in neutral and roll it to another place in front of their house until I can tow it home, and when I move it over there, it starts up then, but it won't move. So then it obviously seems like the trans was somehow locking the engine, and now its dead

Well, I had a spare trans so I rip the old one out and find this:
<a href="http://photobucket.com" target="_blank"><img src="http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e177/DJJTrain/General%20Cars/0310062206.jpg" border="0" alt="Image hosting by Photobucket"></a>

So the torque converter was to blame, and if you have seen a normal one you can tell why. That notch is about 3 times the size it should be on both sides and I can only guess all that extra metal must be in the trans

Well, its taken me months to find time to put the other trans back in between work and college and not living at home anymore, and I finally get a chance this weekend. So I get under there and I find something more surprising. My driveplate translates a good 1/4 inch to 1/2 inch in and out of the engine. So the engine bearings must be completely gone. I just can't believe that the thing still ran, but that would explain how the torque converter got so messed up and why I had like 7 psi of oil pressure.

Well, now its time to make a new powerplant, and I guess this would just be the best time go ahead with a t5 swap

yea, thats what I was thinking, or maybe just a high revving 2.8 that could be used for boost one day. Already have another 2.8 short block in my woods, just need to figure out how to build an engine that can rev to 7k and still be good for the street

right, but are you sure you are making decent power up there? I had taken my old 2.8 to 6 a few times and it seemed pointless cause I didn't feel it pull at all anymore.

What type of ignition setup do you have on your car? The springs were something I was looking into, because I just had the heads dissasembled from my spare 2.8 so I could port them out.

Course, don't have much of a clue of how to port. Got to give it a shot though, I thought that would be key if I was revving high (want to get the air in and out as quick as possible). Anybody have tips on that? thought Id ask

you can make a 3.4 rev just as high as a 2.8 . . . you'll need slightly better ported heads, but youll be making that much more power too, with that much more low end torque. and 3.4s react great to turbos. this guy tiago(www.force-fed-fabrications.com) turbo'd a 3.4(stock bottom) with ported heads and made 340/400 at the wheels on 12 psi of boost(within the stock redline, if you raise the powerband for higher rpm power you could easily see over 400 at the wheels on the same boost.
