Exhaust

Right now I just have the stock exhaust with the converter removed. I'm about to redo my exhaust from a little before the cat all the way back. I thinking of running a 2.5" pipe all the way back, with a glass pack in place of the converter, a flowmaster 80 series muffler, and dual 1.75" tailpipes, and hidden turn-down tips. I'm not sure how this would sound. Anybody have any suggestions? Should I maybe run a hi-flow converter instead of the glass pack? I want to get it as close as I can to make it sound like a V8. The flowmaster 80 series is good and I heard using the smaller diameter tailpipes will keep it sounding good up into the higher RPM range. But with the smaller diameter tail pipes, will it sound as good in lower and at idle as normal 2.5"? Well just gimme your thoughts and suggestions on what I should do...

Theres a guy I work with who has a Z28 LS1 with no cats and 80 series cat-back. That thing puts goose-bumps on my back. Yeah I no my car will never sound like that but I want it to be mildly loud but not V6 and shietty sounding...

I custom made my exhaust not knowing how it was going to sound. It sounds like a V8 at idle, crusing speed and when revving, but in higher RPM's it sounds like crap.... Even though I do like the nice rumble it has, it's still a V6 and I get sick of people trying to race me with their V8s. If I had my stock exhaust still I'd put it back on.

flowmasters sound like **** imo on a v6 and a glasspack is basically a fart can. Go with dynomax catback w/ high flow cat and if you have extra money headers/ y-pipe. I have the cat and catback and everyone thinks i have an 8 or says it sounds good for a v6.

my dynomax at idle sounds like a 8. But once your going.. no mistake its a 6.

The best sounding 6/60 I have heard was my old s10. eldabrock headers, custom y-pipe into a strait 2.5" aluminum pipe to the back of the cab. Cheapo fake flowmaster (notice, not a real one, it was some cheap knock off). Single dump right before the axle.

It didnt sound right after I put a real flowmaster with a chrome tipped dump. I have read that you also get better performance with a single in, single out setup rather then single in, double out.

The GTP uses an inline muffler as a sound deadner. The people who have replaced it with a glass pack for better performance made it sound more like a buzz box. This is still with a cat before that muffler.

when this 2.8 went itno the rx7, i had to fab the back of the exhaust to fit the car,and ended up splitting the y-pipe in to true dual.... i have pipes to two resonators to straight pipe to true dual exhaust with dual glasspacks. and its mean at idle and still seems to still sound domestic in higher RPM's. I think if the resonators were not there, then it would sound like ****.
