Seized Throttle Body

Hey guys, a little update on the restoration of my 85 SC. I've found the accelerator cable and got it all attached, but the throttle body has seized up. What do you guys think? Shoot some of that rust eating stuff on it and force it open or do you think I should replace it?

If you have the money and sources, I'd replace it.

I'd just replace it because you don't know what kind of condition the passages are in, if the rust is bad enough to seize up the plate in the bore(VERY small contact area between the two) imagine what the air passages look like.

In any case, the first step is to take it off and take it apart to see where you stand. You might have lucked out. If all looks as it should, a good soaking in pb blaster and some elbow grease should free it up nicely. If you find any internal problems, the junkyard is only a drive away

good to hear from ya again. id do what they suggested and also cleanup all that corrosion and such from all the engine parts. doing that will allow you to see if there are any other problems and clearup any binding problems there may be. another smaller plus is that you would feel better about the car cause it would look less like a POS (atleast thats how i would feel. )

Yep, I'm gonna go over the engine bay with some wire brushes, rags, and cleaning stuff as soon as I clean up my garage and get the car towed back to my place. Kinda hard to do much work on the car out in 30 degree weather with 10+mph wind blasing at you..

hey that sounds about the same here but the winds are a heck of a lot more than a measly 10mph. good luck.

Oops did I say 10 mph? I meant constant 10mph winds while gusting up to 30
