Gutting the airbox

I hear a lot of people talking about gutting their airbox. How do you do this? I didn't see anything about it in the tech articles, and I did a search but didn't find anything specific.

when i gutted mine, it was pretty much stock except for the catback and highflow cat. i cut the bottoms off mine and noticed my car kept pulling just a bit harder above 3k rpms. let us know what you think. its definetly an improvement over stock, just look at the setup, lol.

Any water problems?? Seems like its everyone general concern. I have k&n which are oil filters so they should repel water to an extent. I don't see water getting all the way up there?
