3.1 V6 distributor question
My buddy and I are using the 3.1 engine out of our 91 firebird. We are planning on using it in our buggy project. We have already custom made the intake to use a carb. Now we are looking at getting a distributor that didn't use a computer. I'm looking to find a hei distributor that will fit, with the coil in cap. Does anyone know where to find anything like this?

I don't know of anything with the coil in the cap but you can get one from an older camaro/bird or s-10 with the 2.8 motor...that distributor isn't computer controlled

Ok, what did you customize on the intake?
The '85 and previous S-10s came with carbs and carb intakes, along with many other early '80s 2.8L equipped vehicles.
The EARLY FWD used the coil in cap dizzy, but it's large and will not clear many intakes. I have not tried to install it with a RWD carb or TBI intake, but I do know the FWD intake is made to clear that dizzy.
The FWD intake would be difficult to use in a longitudle RWD appliucation, at least a conventional one where there is a firewall at the rear of the engine, due to the layout of the cooling system. However in a buggy use, it may work just fine.

We used the stock portion of the maifold where it bolts to the block and heads. We then plugged the injector holes. Then we welded together our own upper plenum with carb mount. I don't see a problem using the coil in cap for what we are doing.
