a good v6 to start with

ok heres the idea, i want to put a chevy rwd v6 (or even a ford v6, i know what your thinking because i dont like the idea eather) into a 2ed gen mazda rx7. why a v6 you might be thinking, well its because of 2 reasions
1: to keep it light
2: so i can run in the "import class" at the local track

i would like the motor to be fuel injected because i know more about that then carb, when im dont im looking to run it in the 1/8 miles and it will be eather twin turbo or one big turbo, so the CR will have to be low to mid 9's any ideas???? i was thinking about eather a 2.8 or a 4.3 v6 (i like the 2.8 better because its not tbi)

any other motors you can think of? I dont really know anything about chevy v6s so please be kind in my school'in

I'd suggest a 3.1 from the later thirdgen years, or the 3.4 from the early fourth gen years. I'd pick the 3.4 for more displacement.

motor mounts from the wankel were cut out, and motor mounts where made out of 3.5 in steel sqare rail, and some .5 inch sheet metal, mocked up welded in...same for tranny, had to cut hole in floor of tranny tunnel. the hole that was there needed to be moved 5 inches forward. most of the wiring was pretty strainght forward. certain parts of each others harness needed to be spliced togetherto get a/c radio, ect. to work...you need to get a oil pressure sending unit, and run that wire.. and i cant remember the company name right now... but... you need to buy a conveter for your speedometer to work, camaro speedo is cable driven... but the rx7's isnt or somehting like that.and the exhaust has to be changed brfor the y pipe from the manifold.. and electric fans.... even though mine never work

sounds pritty stright forward, im not worryed about the speedo because im not planing to run one, just a tach and a oil psi, boost and water temp , do you take the 7 to the track at all or is it just a drive around town car? what kind of mpg do you get?

nope never went to the track, just a daily driver... with 4.10 gears, and no weight....a really fun daily driver.i guess that good about the speedo, because you have to take apart the gauge bezel, solder in a resistor, and connect it to a car battery charger to get it to read right. my only problem is wen it rains first gear is useless, second barley let me go with out smoking tire. but go to grannysspeedshop.com they sell all sorts of kits for different engines into the rx7...from chevy to ford..hell even one to put in a 300zx engine in it. have fun

Once he has the engine swapped in he can always build an aldl cable and read the speed on his laptop, if he wants to drive it on the street.
