I don't know but is there such a thing...

I'm having problems turning on my car after I've been driving it for awhile. If I'm running around town, turning the car on and off it's fine until I get to about the 5th or 6th place after that I'll try to turn the car on and it won't do anything, no click engine won't even turn. The lights, radio, everything will work just nothing happens. If I wait about 15-25 min. It will turn on just fine. Sometimes it I don't wait long enough there will be a slight pause but it will crank. My question is:

Is there such a thing as the starter heating up and not working???

Yeah, it might be a dumb question but I don't know what it could be and I'm hoping it's that cuz, that would be the easiest thing for me to replace.
Thanks a lot guys

is the battery charged?

not trying to say anything here but do u try to start the car 5-6times just to see if this problem occurs?

i think if its the starter it should give u a CLICK sound, im not 100% sure on that though.
again i THINK that if u hear no click at all, could be the battery,
good luck!

When it starts it starts up pretty fast with no hesitation, and the battery is maybe about 6mo. old it's an interstate from firestone, so I don't think it's that but i'll look into it.

I was thinking about doing that but wasn't sure. Yeah it's usually after I've been driving around for a while that it will act up. I guess then it is possiable for the starter to act up then huh?

yes. The starter can get heat soaked and not work. Use a heat shield or replace the starter.

Also check out your battery cables and connections. Corroded connections get worse with heat and I see a lot of people reaplce starter after starter and still have the same problem. Cables are just as important.

Common, VERY common problem on these cars. Could be heat soak, could be other things: Improper shim (which leads to teeth on the starter striking teeth on the flexplate end on, not letting the pinion gear extend fully.) Bent flexplate (flexplate is too close to the starter pinion, same issue as above), all of this is exacerbated because all the parts are right above the exhaust so they all tend to heat up and move around.

I'm still having this problem... Hope wherever you got the starter (I'm wondering if its a palladium starter from Advance auto parts???) just takes your word and doesn't *test* it.

One thing that did help my issue is a new positive cable. It still does it but only in the extreme now. I think in the long run my issue is caused by an old worn out battery and that now its summer so I'm running the air and that kills the battery pretty good.

Thanks for all the input - you guys rock...So I'm on the Summit website and I was seeing that there are 'heat shield wraps' and 'heat shields'. So I was wondering can I do both? And it any of you guys actually have a 'heat shield' and which one.
