AGGG!! Broken Power steering mount
Well folks.. Last tuesday I was drivin to work when the belt jumped off.. I was on the side of the road going WTF?? I put back on and started it up and it jump and disintegrated. Than i really was swearing up and down.. ( thank god ) there was a kragen close by.. Got a new belt and put it back on.. thna I notice the power steering pump move when I engaged tensioner.. So I took a closer looks.. And I was shocked.. the mount was split in 2.. So I call AAA to have it towed to my shop ( I own a outboard repair shop in town ) Called the local Chevy dealer.. Was told it was on a 6 month back order.. ( 3 days later ) I got a chance to go to the local Pick and pull.. Behold.. not one there.. ( AGGG!!! ) So does Anyone happen to have a Powersteering pump front mount for a 1988 with the 2.8 in it??

sorry to hear bud..
not only our cars old,
but having the v6 could be tough
since thats like the biggest minority.
i'd say keep trying local junkyard,
even if u have to drive a bit,
it'll still be better than waiting 6month.

There isn't an aftermarket part for that? I've got an 8 so I'm not familiar with your setup, but maybe an aftermarket supplier would have it. Try Classic Industries, Year One, Next Gen, Hawks, I'm sure there are plenty of others that I'm not thinking of. Give them a try, hopefully one of them can help you, or at least point you in the right direction.

Well, the GM part number for the power steering bracket for the Firebird with the serpintine belt and the 2.8 engine is 14102535. It's probably the same for the Camaro. Call your dealer next week and have the parts department double check. You can also check the classifieds on the boards here. There are plenty of people parting out cars. You would be surprised what you will find. There's also a list of used parts dealers on the FAQ board. Some like IROCZDAVE have a parts want list and will search parts for you. One way or another you should be able to get a correct replacement in way less than 6 months.

When I was looking for the t-bar moulding for my car, The local dealerships told me that it was discontinued and that I would have to go to a salvage yard or find someone selling it privately. I'm in NJ, a friend of mine in IL called his local dealorship and found that they had 3 in stock. I payed $12.99 for shipping on top of the price of the part. My point is if you can't wait six months, and you don't mind shipping costs, maybe you can extend your search to dealers in other areas who may have one in stock. Sorry to hear there isn't a large aftermarket for V6's.

I'm sure you could have the mount welded up by the local body shop too. Did it crack "cleanly" in half so it can be easily welded back together?
Or is it in a few fragments that require measurements and realigning and etc?

Ouch! Yeah that's more than a "few" fragments... what's the mount look like? Was it basically a flat piece of steel? Or did it have a few curves? (My '86 doesn't have serpentine so I'm not sure what yours looks like) Maybe someone with a plasma cutter can slice you up a new one; problem is (as you probably already know), belt alignment can be a problem...
You know, sometimes, a junkyard pulls the motor out of an f-body (or other cars), but leaves all the accessories hanging off of the front of the engine. Might be better to call junkyards and look at their engine shed instead of looking at the f-bodies themselves. I'm sure they'd sell you the bracket off of it.
Oh, something else too, you could try looking for a power steering pump from a junkyard's shed. Usually those will have the brackets still on them, too.
You can find other salvage yards by looking at another town's phone book, or even trying yellowpages.com .

which bracket do you need? I have a three v6 cars one of them had the motor removed when I got it but had some of the brakets still under the hood. If I know what piece you needed I could check and see if it was there. Mike

The original part number was 14102535 as someone said earlier and this does work for the 88 Camaro. Another useful site is PartsVoice division of The Cobalt Group. This is where dealers put their old or obsolete stock so people like us can find it. You just call up the dealer and verify they have it and they will ship it to you.
