This is how NOT to swap in a 3.4L
I was at the junkyard today and before snagging some cheap, needed parts I was amazed to find this. First time i've seen someone else's car with a 3.4 in it. But, seriously... I hope none of you guys are doing anything like this if you're swapping wires (pardon the subpar quality... I don't bring my camera to junkyards, just my phone...
):

there's a stick plugging a pipe... looked to be a/c, but I dunno? Why would it be plugged with a stick?

Holy crap. So they attempted a full SFI swap it looks like.
Thats not what my SFI swap looked like in my s10. I was told it looked factory accept for the intake tube.

That would be a 3400, not a 3.4, there is a large difference. Besides the 3400 swaps end up lookig pretty much stock and run off the original 2.8 or 3.1 ECM.
www.domesticcrew.com Site dedicated to that very swap.

Until proven wrong, I'm going to beg to differ on it being a 3400. For starters I have a '94 with a 3.4. My motor is completely stock and looks identical to that. Secondly if that was a true 3400, then why in the hell would they put the lousy 3.4 heads and intake on the 3400 block. The typical swap for the 3.4 f-body, if your staying six cylinder, is to get the 3400 top end and put that on the 3.4 block. Of course you have to run different pistons and all that junk, but the 3400 fwd motors where a better designed motor in terms of flow in the heads and intake. Lastly if it were a 3400 motor that was completely stock and just dropped in there, the intake would be entirely different and would actually say 3400 on it instead of 3.4, but I might be wrong seeings how I don't know this car at all. I'm just judging from the pictures.

i think he was referring to the person who was talking about putting a 3.4 in the cavalier. he meant that a 3400 goes into the cavy, not a 3.4. that is a 3.4 in the pics.

Id like to swap over the whole SFI system as well as the 3.4 but im not goin that far unless i switch to the FWD heads.
I bet all swaps look like that at some point during the process looks like they just got burned out on the whole thing. the wood thing is kinda funny tho.
