I honestly haven't heard of anyone taking the time. You need a V8 transmission because of the bellhousing bolt pattern and V8 motor mounts that are slid back just a tad...
If you were swapping a carb'd 2.8 it'd be pretty straight forward; I don't know of a factory MPFI manifold for a 90* Chevy V6 so you'd probably have to use a TBI system on a budget or have a factory aluminum TBI intake modified for the injectors. Then you need to tune the ECM...
I think most people just go V8 for that much effort.
Prove them wrong and do it!!

well the tbi setup could be from a blazer i know my bravada has a 4.3 with tbi, there is also the vortec version which stock puts out about 200, and there are tools out there to modify them becuase if you look at the typhoon, and cyclone are producing some good power i think 275. for a trans couldnt you use one from a blazer/jimmy that is only 2wd? I'm just wondering becuase i do not know much.

You could use an s-truck automatic if you swap your f-car tailshaft housing on so that you have your torque arm mount.
I know TBI setups are plentiful... I have 3 or 4 in my garage now from s-truck 4.3s... it's just that you have to change ECM tuning to run it right...

4.3 parts are expensive. with the exception of highly modified ones, they aren't that powerful. cyclones and typhoons are turbo charged, stock. and a v8 tranny from a f-body will work... doesn't have to be from an s-series.

how much are we talking as expensive? for vortecs are not that hard to come by and neither are s-series or blazer-jimmy trans to hard either my local junkyard has a couple.

i don't know exactly on prices. but, i do know that cams are a little more expensive than even cams for the 60* v6s. you won't be able to buy headers for a 4.3 in a camaro/bird...that I know of. They'd have to be custom made most likely. I mean, it'd be cool to see it done but I know I couldn't justify the time or money to do a v8 swap plus more work to still have a v6 in the car.

Because 4.3s are junk.
Every 4.3 I've raced, including ones with forced induction are slower than my cheaply built, junk yard parts sourced 3.2L.
This is also shown by the numerous people that try and make thier S-series "fast", with a supercharger , or nitrous, and even some turbo set-ups, that run a measly low 15 to high 14. I'm into the 13s with an S-series SUV, so that makes 660 > 4.3.
If I were to go through the trouble of swapping over to the parts need for a 4.3, I'd go SBC, but I'd probably actualy go for an LSx, due to teh lighter over all and more efficient package.
