My girlfriend has a 92 RS 3.1L and when she comes to a stop sign the car just shuts off sometimes...not all the time. It started a while back and just went away and now its back...When the RS comes to a stop (when I drive it) the rpms bog around 600-800 i wanna say...so it bounces. Do you guys have any ideas what it could be...TPS maybe IDK anything about these cars. Could it be an injector because today the injectors, when i popped the hood, one on cyl 4 I believe was really loud ticking....it was only comin from the passenger side of the car and it sounded really loud, but its kinda always been like that and Im gonna get em cleaned...could that be the problem? any help is appriciated.

Pull the idle air control motor and clean it with carb cleaner or replace it. It is not keeping the idle high enough to keep it running. This could also be a sign of a transmission problem if the torque convertor is staying locked up when stopping.

 

Well today we pulled the car apart...the entire distributer is fried...so yea I believe that is the problem, cause i was drivin it and was like...wtf is goin on with the RPM gauge...so we took it out since the car needs the intake manifold gaskets cause of an oil leak...and the coil was pretty bad, like all flaking and torn up...but we are gonna clean everything. Thanks anyways man.

 

that reminds me, i gotta fix my RPM gauge.....it stays in the redline.

 

Have you changed your fuel filter?
