Moving from Engine Swap to V6 forum.

(I can't imagine the answer being you have to pull tranny with engine, since you can get to the bellhousing bolts with a V8.)

I recently pulled out the manual tranny on one of my '92 birds. With the A/C, and/or Heater box removed (makes a world of difference if you don't have a lift), the bolts are easily accessible. So to answer the question, no, you do not have to drill holes into the firewall....

BTW, I would honestly consider a 3.4 for your son in it's place.

Re: Pulling A 3.1 v6

if u remove the tq arm and the trans crossmember and let the transmission hang down u can get to the top 2 trans bolts with a long extension and a swivel/swivel socket

Re: Pulling A 3.1 v6

I'm getting ready to take mine out also this will be my first engine pull on a thirdgen.

Last tranmission I put in a thirdgen (85 Camaro 305), I certainly didn't drill any holes in the firewall. Didn't even read the manual because tranny swaps were common (my frind and I had a small shop). The ones I've done in the driveway were a pain, but when I had access to a shop the lift and tranny jack made it a lot easier.

Make sure you take your time and an extra person or two is always nice.

Re: Pulling A 3.1 v6

there are ground wires bolted to the back of the heads that are PITA to get loose while motor is in(or was that the s10?).

I would suggest pre-removing the dizzy if you plan on using it in the next motor.

Can be pulled out with radiator in the car, but I highly suggest removing it.

Really, other then double checking your wires, its a strait up basic pull. Putting the one back in was a little pita while trying to attach a 700r4 at the same time. The motor brackets didnt want to drop on the mounts for me.

The chains or cable will hit the upper intake, yes. If you plan on reusing, or selling, Id pull it as well. If your just dumping for a core charge, dont waist the time.
