Did I gut the airbox enough?

is that good enough or should i cut more?

Im thinkin about doing that ram air where u take some metal and make a airway from the grill to the filters.

Re: Did I gut the airbox enough?

mine was like that when i bought it so i'd say thats more than good..plus for added "ram air" you could put like a scoop on the back of it, lol make it look like a feed scoupe, some one else on the board did it and it looked really nice, now if it helped who knows

It's what I've read a bunch of times on this forum. Leaving about 1-1.5" left.

Re: Did I gut the airbox enough?

It's a pointless mod. The stock air box flows enough air for a stock 350, a motor 2 times the size of the 2.8. But that is what it should look like if you ever start to outflow a 5.7L

That's more than enough. I put scoops on mine when I did that a few months back. If you add scoops you will get alot more stuff in your filters.

hope it does not rain where you guys are, your just asking for water in your air intake... thats why the stock airbox was made the way it is... the scoop will only increase the amount of water, debris you ingest.

I have had the scoops on mine for 6 months and haven't had any problems with water or the filters getting clogged. I just cleaned them and there were a couple of bugs that got stuck but nothing major threatening the motor or filters.

well I guess you dont have a direct flow then, you got lucky. Most other cars had trouble with sucking water, o well

Re: Did I gut the airbox enough?

I think that my grill has something to do with it. It's a stock RS grill, it's pretty good at blocking off bugs and such.

If you have a quality filter, it should be fine. I have friends with snorkels on their truck sticking 6" above the roof and open to the elements. It rains a lot here in FL and they don't seem to have problems using a K&N cone (and no sock).

Re: Did I gut the airbox enough?

That is one reason why I switched to K&N. I figured that they would hold up better and keep more water out than the paper filters. So far it has been a drought here. It is very dry. Where are the hurricanes?

Don't say that word! (hurricane)

I'm still repairing damage to my house after Wilma (the one nobody talks about) .
