Burst of power a 4500 RPM

I got my car back up and running finally with some 3.1 injectors. They are 17lbs I believe and the 2.8 injecters are 15lbs. Now my car runs great but it feels like it is lagging up to about 4500 RPM, It's not bad, just slight. Once the motor gets past 4500 RPM it is such a difference I can feel it pick up like a small shot of NOS and the car just flies in the upper RPMs now. I do need to replace the ignition module, could this cause the lower RPM slowness? It an 89 2.8.

how many miles are on the freshly running car? You may need to reset the computer if didn't disconnect the battery while you worked on it. Maybe the BLM's are way off.

It won't be rich, even with the reset?

Re: Burst of power a 4500 RPM

I unhooked the batter while I was working on it. It is baffling me b/c I don't know what it could be. I figured that it couldn't be the ignition module, it feels more like a lack of fuel or air, I'm not running rich or anything out of the norm. I got the car running yesturday afternoon, so maybe a total of 50 miles at most on the car since yesturday. The car runs even better now, even idle is lower and smoother.

Re: Burst of power a 4500 RPM

Trust me, you are running richer than designed, but I don't think that's the reason for the "burst of power." I get the same feeling right around 3500 RPM, starting there, that's the area between Max torque output and max horsepower output. It goes from 3500 RPM to about 5000 RPM. It's just a powerband that's shifted because of the extra fuel delivery.

That makes sense, it's just that its such a quick change in the power that I thought that somthing was goin on. Its not a gradual change at all, its sudden. If I'm running rich then its not by much, I can never smell it in the exhaust while driving.

When at idle, tap the gas a few times and see the smoke/fumes comming out. If you look in my exhaust video, you can see this from the 24# injectors.

Re: Burst of power a 4500 RPM

Could I change the timing by 1 or 2 degrees to make it run not as rich? These were the only good injectors in the junkyard that I could find. All 6 of them were cheaper then one new one at the store.

Lower your FP, you need an AFPR anyways. I have heard bad things about Holley, though. I can give you a link to show you how to mod a factory one.

Isn't that with a washer or someting? I have heard about modifying the FPR.

It would consist of a washer, flare nut and epoxy. Look up some past posts by 83 crossfire ta, and the thread was by imthebriman...

Timing doesn't affect your fuel ratio. All a timing change will affect is, well, your timing.

Just curiosity, why did you get different ones instead of having your old ones cleaned/rebuilt? Most Carb/Fuel Injection shops will do them for about $15 each, and they comeout all nice and "new."

Did that to mine.

Re: Burst of power a 4500 RPM

I didn't know that I could get them rebuilt. The junkyard only had 3.1s and the parts store wanted $86 for one new one that wasn't in there catalog, other parts stores didn't have any either or their prices were also expensive.

With the timing I always thought that adjusting the timing could help some it the air/fuel mix isn't quite. Now I wasn't expecting to do that and solve being very rich/lean, just if your a little rich like I am.

Put the new ignition module in and the sudden change went away, its much smoother in that area of the RPMs now.
