Performance in Remanufactured engines

Hey guys I know you know this, I'm going to buy a remanufactured engine for my 3.1 and I asked that person if the company had any performance parts for the 3.1 and he said that it would be really hard to add a cam, headers or any other performance things because of the fuel injection, it would not make it smog legal, I live in Cali so thats pretty important to me, if I buy that engine can I still buy a cam or headers or whatever without throwing the computer into a fit? Thanks. Oh yeah and where can I find great looking Valve Covers?

Re: Performance in Remanufactured engines

You can add other performance parts to your engine. Check the sticky at the top of the page for a good list. You can get headers and I think that they are still smog legal. The biggest cam you can put in without messing the computer up is a 260. For valve covers your only options are Fiero valve cover which are the best looking or if you are a fan of chrome stockers then go for some Edelbrock valve covers.

Re: Performance in Remanufactured engines

Do the fiero valve covers. They are awesome.

Also, don't forget the exhaust! There are nice gains to be made with a high flow cat and a V8 car's cat-back system. You need to custom build a nice y-pipe as well with a good 2 into 1 transition (such as the flowmaster piece) that goes to the cat. All of our third gens are seriously lacking in the y-pipe department.

Except the Turbo T/A!!

You can get smog legal headers for the 2.8. They will work on the 3.1 but wont be smog legal.

They would if you converted them to use the 3.1 smog equipment, no?

Technically, but in CA, I believe, you need a number for the part and it needs to match the car to pass inspection.

That's true. When buying parts, some say "CA smog legal" and others say "Except CA.

Re: Performance in Remanufactured engines

the dynomax catback is 50 state legal, and if you have the original converter, get a new "high flow" one. that will help.

Nope. They are only certified for the 2.8L MPFI motor in automatic Camaros. Any other configuration and they are technically illegal.
