Do you like? The other cover is getting the same treatment.

Re: Opinions

preaty cool. did the displacment change at all with the amalgamation of 3500 and 3.4 parts? if it did, I would use the new displacment. (like 3.473L Turbo) but I'm weird like that.) I would have make them chome though. (again I just like things like that.) alot nicer job than I could have done.

Re: Opinions

No displacement change. I'm using heads and intake from a 3500 and a 3.4 block.

Unsure if I want to keep the blue letters, or make them either black or silver.

Re: Opinions

I like GM corporate blue, myself...

It's always nice to have things neat and clean, but I want to see it run!! If you can get this thing done I think it will set a lot of other V6 guys free.

Keep it up!!

Re: Opinions

I just threw up a little bit in my mouth.

The solid blue is fine but that lettering is fugly, not just how much is on there, but the style as well.

Something better would be "3.400 hybrid" or "3.400 TURBO" something along those lines, keep it simple, I don't know that I would put that on the rocker covers either, thier shapes don't really lend themselves to adding lettering.

A (small) plaque similar to the GM Goodwrench rebuilt engines would look 11tybillion times better.

Re: Opinions

IMO I would just go with the solid blue. Im not one for chrome or flashy stuff. Just plain, simple, yet still eye catching for me.

I thought about doing the GM logo in white lettering. The origional plan was to use these letters as a mask and have a black block around them (letters would remain blue).

I just threw up a little bit in my mouth.

Re: Opinions

Just had another thought. You could make it smaller and put it on the edges of the 3500 UIM. Kinda like this...

Keep it the same between plenum and rocker covers, polished plenums with painted rocker covers look like ***, especially on a genIII 660.

If you like the polished look, polish the rocker covers and then add coloured lettering.

When they are finished differently it looks like you started with polishing, decided it was too much work and so you then wussed out and painted.

You can't see in the pics, but it's translucent paint. It's a two step process, first a silver coat (or a polished surface) then the top coat. I'm leaving the polished UIM and putting a coat of the "anodize" paint over it. The heads are staying aluminum and the motor hasn't been decided if it's black or blue.

BTW: I changed the cover, I'll post a pic a little later, got two tattoos to do tonight. I made a GM logo in white and put another coat of the translucent paint on top to give it a ghost look. I like it much better.

Re: Opinions

Honestly, no offence or anything. But Blue is for Fords man, if I were to look under your hood, and see blue valve covers, I'd say "Oh, why would he put a Ford motor in a Firebird?" But whatever man, black is simple, and easy, you could always paint them pink, aswell...

Re: Opinions

That looks decent.

I know the paint you speak of, I've used it a few times.

I'm contemplating using the green on my engine.

Paint the plenum with the silver base, it acts like a primer, and holds the paint in place so that it doesn't fish-eye. Plus it will have the same sheen between the plenum and the rocker covers.

Where have you been? Pointiacs came in "GM Blue" baby . Go look over at 60*v6, all those guys seem to like GM blue.

BTW, look in my signature in the first post, I have no problems with Ford (I own 3 of them).

Does this look like Ford to you?...

Yeah, didn't think about that. The paint is some tough stuff after the long curing process. I actually let my current upper dry for half a day and it was still quite soft. After it dried completely, I only managed to chip it once and that was because I was using an impact to dissasemble the top end , it's supposedly can take 500*, too. I put the covers up to the old manifold, though, and the UIM still looks as good as when I painted it almost a year ago.

Yeah, the first one was a little iffy, but I like the finished product you got there. Looks pretty good, I would match the block with the valve covers.

Re: Opinions

pontiac blue is a much ligher blue, almost baby blue, or sky blue. (i happen to love pontiac blue, and am going to paint my block that color when I get around to not being broke.) I'm going with a 3.1 stock rebuild, then saving up and doing the 3.4-3500 hybrid thing with a 200-4R trans (I hope) and a turbo. OR a turbo pontiac 400 fuel economy be damned....

Re: Opinions

i like the blue but the blue gm logo's kinda out of place; i like simple (less to take in easier on the eyes) and i thought the first lettering was cheesy
