blower motor and AC controls question
I have an 88 camaro but the blower motor from Autozone doesn't even come close to fitting. I started to look around on this site at other camaros and it looks like I should be using the 83 camaro blower motor. What gives. See my first pic on how unclose the fit is. Also, I only had one place on the new blower to hook up the power to and no ground.
The second one is an extra plug just sitting there, what does it go to.
and the last pic is a capped off vacume line. I have no clue what this goes to. It is sitting on top of the blower housing.
I wired the blower motor up to work but inside the car I only have air blowing out the defrost. Doesn't the controls for the ac, to vent, defrost work off vacume? I don't hear anything sucking when I move the lever. Any suggestions?

Re: blower motor and AC controls question
I found out that my 88 use's the 86 blower motor. Does anyone have one that is out of a parts car? They are $60.00 bucks new. Don't have that kinda dough. If not I'll make this one work.

Re: blower motor and AC controls question
It looks like I have to use the blower motor that says without A/C. That's strange, I have factory AC.
Re: blower motor and AC controls question
I've alsways just pulled them out of the JY when I had one go bad. Just ask for a test before you leave and they can hook it up to 12v to confirm. I think I brought the blower with me last time, and pulled it outof an entirely different vehicle, GM is known for using parts across many body styles.

Re: blower motor and AC controls question
what difference will it make to use the blower motor that says with out AC? Also does anyone know where to hook up the vacume line for the vent controls on the engine side? I have a lone vacule line that is capped off and don't know where it is supposed to go. I believe it is for the controls inside the car. See pic above.
Re: blower motor and AC controls question
There's a tee fitting on the back of your UIM. One side goes to the brake booster, the other to the controls. See if that tee has either been replaced with a single fitting, or has a cap on it.
You can install the non-A/C blower, and try it, it's not going to hurt anything.

That T on the back of the motor is quite big. The line I have is 1/4" atleast. The one side is going to the brake booster and the other is going to a soft line but I'm not sure where to.
I'll check it out later and see what I can find.

Re: blower motor and AC controls question
couldn't wait until the morning so I went out and found that the line has another round type T and then from that is a short piece of hose with this tiny reducer that must act as a restricter for the controls in the car. I unhooked the line from the reducer and noticed that it barely pulls any vacume. I uncapped the other line and hooked it up to the restricter and tried the controls inside the car and nothing. I didn't hear any vacume leaks inside the car.
I could have mess'd with something when I pulled the console out so now I will have to check the controls inside the car. Man this stinks.
also both of those lines go into the car fromt he same spot in the firewall.

Re: blower motor and AC controls question
ok, it must be stock then. so the inside controls don't need alot of vacume? That little thing really restricts the suction. I wonder what else inside the car I should look for?
Re: blower motor and AC controls question
Did you chack fuses and the such?
Not a lot of vacuum is needed to contol the HVAC, have you sever see the back of the controls? There is a few VERY small lines that feed them.

fuse is good. I tried hooking up the extra line and nothing. It looks like everything is hooked up and nothing is missing. I do not see were those black lines meet up with the controls.

Re: blower motor and AC controls question
I found the vacume connection that comes into the car and found that it was unplugged. They work great now.
