Intake Manifold

This may belong in the Auto Detailing and Appearance forum, but I figured I'd get some better responses here...so, here goes.

Had my 3.1L MPFI hanging upside down on an engine stand for the past few weeks and antifreeze and what not dripped down the engine and all over the intake manifold and throttlebody...they now have that green algae/dirty look to it...it was relatively nice looking before this.

Anyone know of a good way to clean it up again?

So far, I've only tried engine degreaser and that didn't help at all.

Tomorrow, I'll put up some pictures.

Thanks.

Try a stiff bristle brush and some simple green, thats what we use to get crap off at our shop.

Re: Intake Manifold

My dad uses standard gasoline. It does a good job; let's hope you enjoy the smell.

Re: Intake Manifold

Brake cleaner didn't do anything for it...I've tried just about everything I can think of to chemically remove it...

I used a wire brush and it seems to be doing the trick rather nicely...

I'll give gasoline a try later.

It looked like this a little bit after I first started working on it...

And now it looks like this...

Got all of the detail work left...and the TB doesn't want to clean up for me at all.

Re: Intake Manifold

I've used oven cleaner on several occasions and it worked for me on some old edlebrock manifolds. Spray it on and let it sit for no more than 20 minutes then flush with warm water. Try to avoid electrical and plastic parts.
