air intake fabrication
I have a 92 3.1L camaro with a CAI (that i havent hooked up yet) and i want to get rid of rubber ribbed thing that comes stock on the car and connects the stock air intake plastic to the TB. I dont have pics cause i cant figure out how to get'em on here. Its the rubber piece that has a metal hose that connects to the passenger side valve cover. My intake does not have a hole that will allow me to take that off and connect it to my metal intake. Would it be ok to put a hole in the metal piece of my intake and then connect it? or can i just seal that part of the valve cover off (guessing no)? Help would be greatly apprieciated. sorry bout no pics but untill i find out how to get'm on wont have any. thx

Re: air intake fabrication
Since you run a MAP system, you can just put in a PCV engine Breather Filter insted of the hose on the valve cover. Keep in mind that you can't do this if you live in a state that has a visual smog inspection.

I used to agree but can't this have a negative effect on your oil system since the PCV doesn't just vent, it draws pressure from the crank case. If course on a turbo car you wouldn't want this because you can blow the seals out with all the boost. I dunno if thats true, it just makes sense to me.

Re: air intake fabrication
You can plug it up. There's another crankcase evac hose running from the driver side to the tb so it can draw from there. No lost vac and it'll still draw fumes out of both banks.

Re: air intake fabrication
If you understood the PCV system better, you would understand that the flow will reverse depending on the state the engine is at.
Low throttle the PCV hose that attaches to the plenum has the highets vacuum and pulls in that way, this is also where the PCV valve is mostly commonly attached. Then at higher throttle angles the velocity of air through the intake ducting will cause a vacuum to pull the other way through the PCV system and close the PCV valve creating a vacuum inside the crank case, it will be a small vacuum, but it is there, pulling the gasses out of the crank case and also helping with ring seal.

But listen to sixshooter. I had breathers on my motor for a month maybe and took them off from his advice. If the gases don't get pulled out then its something like acids get created inside the motor? Its bad for the motor none the less.
