Starting problem, please assist!

Hey im kinda new here but i got a serious problem. I got a '89 Camaro RS with the 2.8 MPFI on it and for some reason now it wont start! It sat for about eight months due to a broken brake line. I went to start it (after charging the battery) and it cranked like usual but it just wouldnt start. I pumped the gas on teh second try, sounded alittle better but still didnt start. Third try i had the gas to the floor and it sounded better, ALMOST started then nothing. I blame the used fuel pump Goodyear put in but when i turn the key ON i hear it buzzing. My friend said it might be the spark but, im not too sure, got any suggestions? (probably gonna try eather in the TB)

check to see if it has spark and that all your plug wires are nice and snug.

i did and they seem to be ok, and the wire don't look too worn out eather. I think its a fuel issue but then again im not an expert with electronics. Saturday im gonna try ether in the TB and if it fires, then i know whats wrong.

chances are its not your throttle body, as long as it is opening and closing. its most likely a clogged fuel filter. happens to me every year after hibernation.

i don't mean its the TB, i know thats fine, i just mean putting ether down it. I don't think its the fuelfilter, it was replaced about 2 years ago (was rusted shut, had to cut if off!). But it has been sitting awhile so that also might be a problem. Fuelfilters are only like $20 a piece right? If its not tooooooo rusted i may try replacing that and see what happens.

Also this may be a problem. After it sat for awhile due to a brake line problem my RETARDED BROTHER put weedwacker fuel (2cycle) into the gas tank(accidentally). Not much maybe 1/8 of a gallon but may that be a problem. recently i put 2 gallons of 93 octane along with STP Fuel Filter and FI cleaner. Just throwing that out there

Two stroke oil in the gas will only foul a plug or smoke a little while running at the most. I would suspect that your filter is shot due to the gas sitting in it and varnish is built up due to old gas evaporating.

Every hurricane season down here, everybody goes to test-start their generators. I end up putting new carbs on them (faster/cheaper then re-building), and they fire right up.

When gas evaporates, it leaves a sticky mess behind, start with the fuel filter (blow it out backwards with a compressor before buying new) maybe an injector or two is clogged. If you can't blow air through the filter with your mouth, then it's no good.

Re: Starting problem, please assist!

hmmm i see. would you recommend dropping the tank and cleaning out the old stuff? Or is that a "just in case" thing. I got plenty of time and i don't plan on driving her until winter is over so time is not a concern. One big concern i have is that the filter was replaced once and it was actually rusted on the line! Goodyear cut if off and replaced what they cut off (about 2 inches off of each side) and put a filter on it. But since it sat for 12 months it may be that... ok i think im talking to myself now. One of my buddies said the pump may be kicking but not enough fuel to start it. Probably due to a fuel filter. Thanks! but got any other Ideas on what may be the problem?

Use a fuel guage to test the fuel pressure when the key is in the "on" position.
