2.8 Info

I am thing about building a strong 2.8 motor its out of a 1986 camaro. I have been looking thru the threads and just not sure what to do. I would get headers and new mufflers. Just not sure about the motor it self. And how to tune the ecm to the new stuff. All the computer stuff is new to me. I think i would go with a bigger cam and new lifters. Been looking at some roller rockers on summit. Like i said i am just thinnkg and trying to find out what i can do. A tubo is not out of the question it would just be last on my list cause i am not to sure on how to do it and where to get one thnaks for any help you can give.

Re: 2.8 Info

Time for you to do some serious searching around. Use the keyword "firstfirebird" and that will get you started.

I think it's pretty well agreed that starting with a 3.4 from a 4th gen is the best place to start. After that, there are a few different roads to travel.

Good luck!

EFI isn't that difficult to understand. I'm 16 and its very clear to me. You can only go so big with the cam before your computer goes nuts. If you want big you need to program you ECM. Turbo shouldn't be very hard if you have healthy V6, how many miles you got on it? The sticky that dave made awhile ago should help on the turbo. Your not the first and im positive not the last person to enter the world of turbo v6.

Re: 2.8 Info

You can get cheap 1.6 rockers at a wrecking yard. Look for a 94-95 with a 3100 in it. The rockers are a direct replacement with a 1.6 ratio.

As far as a cam, GM offers the 260* adv duration with lifters for about $125, or you can call Delta cams (google them) and they can give you the same re-grind for about $100 with lifters.

Next is you need to increase the flow on the top end. Porting and a 5angle valve job really wakes up the iron heads, but is still not that great with the upper manifold design (really restrictive above 4500RPM).

If you have the fabrication skills, a FWD top end is the best, but if you are new to modifying cars you may want to start with the above mentioned mods to get a little more kick without dumping a ton of cash until you get a grip on tuning etc.

^^^ hahah, thanks Kris.

Re: 2.8 Info

Like i said i was just looking in to it. The motor would be rebuild. so everything would be new. I would like to say with the 2.8 as much as possible. I already have a 1983 Camaro with a 305 so i dont want to go the v8 rute with this one. I understand that the computer system just not sure about the retuning on it.

Take a look at crane's performance cams, you won't be dissapointed. If you want to get yourself started tuning head over to the diy prom section and start reading. Here's an excellent link to get started. -> https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/diy-...uide-book.html
