Hypothetical 3.1 - 6.0 engine swap
My wife's aunt has this new escalade. beautiful truck. Has a chevy 6.0 liter engine. The new 5th gen camaro will have one. Would it be possible to squeeze one into a third gen if you just took the computer and everything from the donor 6.0 car? I'm sure there would be impossible tranny problems, but hey I'm a novice. I have no idea. I would never do this but it's fun to think about. lol

You can fit most anything in these cars with enough work. That engine is only 366ci and people have fit MUCH larger engines in these cars. Go check out the engine swap forum.

Specifically, you are looking at the LS-series engines. It has been done around here already. Go to engine swap and look at the stickies for LSx...
There is also a LSx/LTx swap sub forum. Everything you need is there.

Re: Hypothetical 3.1 - 6.0 engine swap
The new Camaro will not have an LQ9 motor, it'll have an LS6. Many people have done LS2/LQ9 swaps sucessfully before, read up in the LSX swap forums.

Re: Hypothetical 3.1 - 6.0 engine swap
I doubt it gets an LS6 seeing as they stoped making that one. It was LS1/LS6 now its LS2/LS7 or L76 (I think, the one in the G8) or any of the other multitudes of LS derived V8 engines GM has created over the last 2-3 years. No one knows 100% what engine the new camaro will have. most likely with gas and cafe going the way they are its going to be a V6 base (obviously) probabyl 3.5 or 3.9 (maybe 3.6DOHC) the 6.0L with AFM and then a non-AFM SS with 430 HP (corvettes base engine "Detuned" to 395 is my guse.)

Re: Hypothetical 3.1 - 6.0 engine swap
yea.. but with the platform of the new vette and the platform of the new camaro, even if it wasent "detuned" I dont think the new 5th gen would be able to pull it off

Re: Hypothetical 3.1 - 6.0 engine swap
According to "The Story of Camaro" by John Gunnell & Jerry Heasley the 5th generation camaro will have a 6.0 liter LS2 small block V8. In the biblio the authors claim this come right from GM but I'm sure they could change it anytime. I'm really excited about the cylinder deactivation tech "Active Fuel Management". I will look at some ls2 swaps out of curiosity but i'm pretty happy with my v6. I wonder if one could incorporate AFM into a third gen by doing a computer swap or something. That would be cool.

the LS2 is being replaced by the LS3 last I knew. as for AFM in a thirdgen, i dont know have the foggiest idea of what would be involved. I think its more than just a comp swap.
