No. That's a 90* engine and you have a 60*. Tons more work involved. Please search this forum and the engine swap forum for more information.

Actually I think that the tranny will bolt up. Just do the 3.4 swap from the earlier 4th gens. Much easier and it swaps directly and a nice little boost in power. You would need everything from the 02 and would be very involved.

Ah, I just checked wikipedia. I'm wrong, 2.8RS is right.

Re: engine swap help please!!!
You can do it! You need an entire assembly, though. You MUST have the complete engine assembly, engine harness, PCM, transmission, and motor mount brackets.
Please do this swap! I can't do it for you, but if you decide you want to do it, I will help walk you through it.
I guess I'm gonna have to do it and then post up the pics so that people will have consistent instructions....

would it really be that difficult? i thought it would be a simple swap since they are both v6 but i guess im wrong...i dont see how it would be easier to swap in an LS1 or somthin....but if earlier 4th gen engines would swap easier which ones? i dont want the 94 or something of that age they only have 160 hp or so i wanted the 00-02 cuz they have 200 hp and 31 mpg but which year or engines do u recommend

Re: engine swap help please!!!
The "easy" swap only qualifies with the 93-95 3.4 engine. You will have to take the power they make stock if you want the swap to stay easy.
After that, you can beef up the 3.4 like the guys here are doing with a front wheel drive engine top end and such. I expect they will make decent power when they are done. The 3800 engine is so different that it is just like swapping in a V8. It really will require a lot of effort on your part to get it done. You can do it, but it will require lots of time and patience, especially if you are on an extreme budget (like I am) and use all used parts. You can do it even if you have more time than money, but your sacrifice will be lots and lots of time.
And you'll still have to spend SOME money...
You could easily drop in a 4th gen 3.4 engine and then go the turbo route as well...

well if i did get the engine i would take the "easier" route to swap it and have the engine shipped to a shop and they do it....would they be able to do it with just the engine? or would i need a new tranny and rear end as well and i really want the 3.8 or what ever it is which is in the 96-02 because of power and fuel economy

Re: engine swap help please!!!
The 3.4 is the much easier route. It is the same block and nothing has to be changed. Everything that is already in the car or on the current motor will bolt up. These motors are held back by the intake and heads. With the aluminum heads the 3.4 can become just as powerful as the 3.8 and who says they don't have fuel economy when in good shape.
Re: engine swap help please!!!
i just dont know about the 3.4 though cuz it only has 20 more hp than my engine if i spend a few grand on a motor swap i wanna get a bigger difference than that...the 3.8 or what ever it is has 60 more hp than my engine but idk i just dont think the 3.4 swap would be worth it unless i found a very cheap one with low miles

Re: engine swap help please!!!
someone tried this swap a few years back, and ran into problems trying to get it to stay running because of the VATS i believe. i suppose, if you had the ECM reflashed, it would be a bit easier to do this then, but that was just one of the major issues he had. do a search on it, Project85 was the one who attempted it.
