Cams/lifters

I am slightly "building out" a 1986 2.8L camaro drive line (basically making it a show car). But I want a little more nut behind it (if you know what I mean lol). I found a cam/lifter kit on Summitracing.com. Here it is: http://store.summitracing.com/partde...&view=1&N=700+ In addition to this, I want to make it a 10.5:1 compression. What other modifications would I have to do to make this work properly. Further more, can someone please explain to me what all of the detail means about the cam/lifter kit?? What is the "Intake Duration at 050 inch Lift -- 204"? Does this mean that the intake valves stays open 0.204 seconds and they open 0.050 of an inch? Someone with more knowledge on this PLEASE break it down for me.

Re: Cams/lifters

just go to google and type in "how does a cam work" Im sure something will come up that will help you out, once you understand how it works you will understand what all those specs mean.

Re: Cams/lifters

That Edelbrock cam doesn't work with FI I believe. Look into the Comp 260H. If you want 10.5:1 compression you will need some custom pistons. If you go the 3.4 route you can use the 3.4 DOHC pistons for about 10:1 compression.

Re: Cams/lifters

260 > mtc 5 yeah stock rockers are 1.5 the meaning is this, say the cam has .200 lobe lift u multiply it by the rocker ratio so a 1.5 rocker gives u .300 valve lift wereas a 1.6 rocker would give u .320 valve lift

Re: Cams/lifters

Ok. So does "Intake Duration at 050 inch Lift: 204" mean that with stock rockers, the cam's lobe lift on the intake puts out a valve lift of 0.050" for a duration of 204 degrees?? Or does it mean that the lobe has a lift of 0.050"??

Re: Cams/lifters

I think you need to understand how an engine works a little better before you go modifying yours. Not trying to be rude, just my .02.
