HELP!! my car revvs itself

ok so i kept having code 32 and i read that most people cleaned the hose that connects to the EGR so i did that and it worked great, drove it to school in the morning and it was fine, but on the way home i noticed that whenever i let off the brakes the car revvs itself once and when i got into my driveway i stopped and let off the brakes and noticed that the volt meter kinda fell back a little so i think there might have been a slight loss of power, but does anyone know why it revvs when i let off the brakes,

EGR valve and Alternator were replaced less than a month ago, so i dont think it could be the alternater.

Re: HELP!! my car revvs itself

You may have a vaccum leak since you pulled that tube off. Also check for any other vaccum leaks.

Re: HELP!! my car revvs itself

hmmm the tube i pulled off and cleaned was the one that goes from teh EGR up to the intake, and its not really a tube, dik why i said that but its a metal pipe that has ridges and its kinda gold in color, does that have anything to do with the vacuum?

i just went and checked the hoses that i knew were vacuum hoses and didnt appear that were any cracked or leaking vacumm lines

Re: HELP!! my car revvs itself

If we say vacuum leak then we are referring to any air leak after the TB. So that tube, gasket, or plastic tube could be the culprit. How was the gasket for the metal tube look?

Re: HELP!! my car revvs itself

they looked fine, but looks can be decieving, i think i will try replacing those gaskets and do you think that those four bolts holding on the tube might need to be tightened to a certain torque? maybe i didnt tighten it enough...

Re: HELP!! my car revvs itself

On a '91 there isn't any vacuum lines to the EGR setup. The ribbed metal tube you cleaned transfers the exhaust gases from the EGR valve to the intake.

However, if this metal tube isn't properly sealed to the EGR and intake then a vacuum leak will occur. Either new gaskets or a thin coat of copper RTV will help in sealing it.

As for the slight rev when letting off the brakes. Usually it is the opposite, when applying the brakes the egnine wil rev ever so slightly. This is from the air (via vacuum) moving from the booster to the intake manifold.

As crazy as it may sound, your car may have been doing this all along. It is just that now you are noticing it.

RBob.

Re: HELP!! my car revvs itself

yeah i dont think the ribbed tube got sealed all the way, ill try fixing it tonight and for the brakes i did know that it revs a lil bit for the booster and stuff but the revs it was doing was a lot more than it normally did,

Re: HELP!! my car revvs itself

alright i got new gaskets on it made sure it was tight and started it and no revving when i started it which was good and when i pressed on the brake it would only do the normal amount to power the booster, so now i just got to see what it does after driving around town for a bit but i think i got it pretty much taken care of
