Intake Heater Pipe ???

Okay, I'm growing annoyed at losing coolant because of the 2-piece pipe that runs under the t-stat housing for the heater inlet. My black clip (that holds the intake adapter to the pipe that splits between the TB and the heater inlet) broke a couple of years ago, and the pipe is loose enough to leak a dribble, but not enough to come apart. I don't want to replace it with the one off of my 3100 top end set, and have THAT one break on me as well. Is it possible to get one of these at the dealer? Or, even better, 2?

And, I know someone is going to ask me because I brought it up before... No, I don't have the heater pipe from my old 2.8. If I did, I wouldn't be having this problem, because I would have ditched this 2-piece POS a long time ago, probably when I replaced the head gaskets (2005). Yes, I do know they are all 2-piece, but the 2.8 one screwed together, like home plumbing, not clipped.

Re: Intake Heater Pipe ???

im not sure what you are talking about, but if its the T you can get them at pepboys for under 15.00. they are cheap and get hot and just leak like crazy. i was going to fabricate one out of metal some day, but not today.
or is it something else?
i know that going under the dash and running those hoses are a pain, which i had replaced when the heater core needed replacing.

Re: Intake Heater Pipe ???

mav the easiest and best thing to do is goto home depot and get pipe fittings.

the threads in the lower intake are pipe thread. so u can remove the 2 peice conection and run the line out to the heater core hose with pipe fiuttings and nipples

i think alls u need is one female/male 90* fitting an a single pipe nipple.
or it could be 2 pipe nipples and one 90* female/female fitting.

doing it that way will delete the tb heater coolant lines
or instead of a 90* fitting u can use a pipe t fitting if u want to retian them

either way all the fittings should be under 15 bucks at home depot

edit

lemme look around and see if i have pics i did this on mine briefly but then ditched my heat all together so i just screwed a pipe plug into the manifold.
but i think i got pixtures of the setup somewere

Re: Intake Heater Pipe ???

A few years ago GM had a repair kit for this pipe. For a while the factory stock one was die cast zinc or some such nonsense. So there is (or was?) a kit that included the pipe, clip, o-ring and maybe another part or two.

Funny thing was the parts guy knew exactly what I needed once I mentioned "pipe at the front of intake." He just smiled, turned, left down an aisle, and returned with a bag of parts. "Yep, that's what I need."

That would be great, except I would have to find a dealer around here where the parts guys AREN'T idiots. For example, when I did the trans swap, I told them I don't know how many times that I needed a particular DRIVEN speedo gear for my T5. So, what did they send me? First came a whole 700R4 VSS with speedo gear, and then came a 700R4 driven gear, 47T, iirc, neither of which would fit in the hole (still have that driven gear if anyone needs it, along with a 7T T5 drive gear). Good thing the replacement trans came with the newer style gear/cable assembly, otherwise I'd still be suffering with the bouncy speedo...
But, there is a guy at the dealer I had my internship at that just might know what I'm talking about... Hmm. I'll get back to you guys.
Oh, and BTW, it's cold and snowy here, and I don't have the patience in the cold to fab something from scratch. I just want the factory pieces to work... Preferably without the coolant stink and the fun of having to check and fill the bottle every week.

Re: Intake Heater Pipe ???

I ended up pulling mine out and welding the TB ports shut and ran it as normal.

That's a. upstream from where the leak is (between that part and the part that goes into the intake manifold), and b. already been done... I have one long piece of hose connecting the 2 pipe ends and have the coolant adaptor completely removed from the TB.

Due to this freak snowstorm (9 inches or so?), I didn't make it to the dealer today. I'll have to try again Monday.

Re: Intake Heater Pipe ???

its not cool, but go to your closest parts store, like pepboys, or kragen, start to tell them what you want and they may just walk you over to it and say "here it is." they carry all sorts of stuff and things like heaters are generally pretty constant for a company. im guessing, but i bet that its the same system for all gm cars. that means you might be able to get it from any gm dealer, not just chevy. and if it is pretty standard the parts houses will carry it too.

Re: Intake Heater Pipe ???

Damn it! I just found the damn thing on partsamerica.com! It's Dorman P/N 800401, called a heater hose connector, and it's good on 1990-2000 model year engines, just in case anyone's wondering, and I have to order it. Next week...
