Re: 3.1 and seafoam?

I pulled the big vac line off the brake booster and let the vacuum suck it into the intake.

Re: 3.1 and seafoam?

+1
Thats the line most people use. It's big and easy to find. I plan on seafoaming my car once I offically pull it out in a few weeks. From what I hear it's the best total engine cleaner you can get, other than a $100 full BG fuel system service.

Re: 3.1 and seafoam?

how would you do it just let it suck through it and turn motor off and let it soak and clean everything or do you keep it running the whole time..i heard it is suppose to unstick valves also

Re: 3.1 and seafoam?

Just keep it running and you'll get alot of white smoke as it burns up all the carbon deposits in the engine.

Here's a picture of the vac line. It's the thing in the upper right of the picture:

(thanks for the pic chevyracingrox, his pic so he gets all the credit)

Re: 3.1 and seafoam?

Once you get the desired amount of Seafoam into the engine, turn it off immediately. This is important because it has to sit for 5 or so minutes to work well. If you keep it running the whole time, the Seafoam will just burn off too quick to do much of anything.

I agree with the brake booster line, that's what I used. Just pull it off the brake booster and suck up the Seafoam. When enough gets it, kill the engine by plugging up the line. The first time I used Seafoam, I tried to just turn the key to off to kill the engine... Didn't work so well. The engine just kept running(very roughly) until it burnt up the Seafoam.

Good luck tho.. And have fun with the smoke cloud.

Re: 3.1 and seafoam?

Where can you get SeaFoam from.
I am in Canada, so the local car parts places are Lorco or Canadian Tire. Is this stuff available from there or should I order it online ?

Re: 3.1 and seafoam?

Advanced Auto parts is the place I've gotten it in the past. I would check marine shops too as seafoam is popular to use in boats and jetski's too.

What would you say is considered "enough" tho.

Half the bottle?
When your done with this do you have to change the oil afterwards?
I've also heard you can put this stuff in your gas?
Final question - is there a specific type of seafoam to buy or no?

Re: 3.1 and seafoam?

Some people say use 1/3, I say use half a bottle in the vac line and get it good and clean.
Seafoam can also be put in your crankcase (where you put the oil). If you do this drive around your bloack with it in there then come back and change the oil. I'd use another 1/2 bottle for this. If you just do it in the vac line you wont need to change your oil.
And yes yopu can put it in your gas to clean valves and injectors. I'd do 1/2 bottle in here too. Then you have a 1/2 bottle left to use on your jetski, snowblower, ATV, or any other toys you want to clean the engine on.

Re: 3.1 and seafoam?

For now. If you start to drive it regularly again then I'd do it in the crank case and gas tank. It also stabilizes gas so if you'r cars sitting with gas in the tank I'd put some in there too.

Re: 3.1 and seafoam?

yeah she pretty much just sits there
mainly because of on going engine / gas issues
I only average about 150 miles per tank

I read that it's a good way to clean everything and
check for leaks and what not so maybe

i'll just get a buddy to help me out
and i'll shot for 1/3 a blt in all three spots

Re: 3.1 and seafoam?

No problem.

You can just put it right in the tank with your gas and right in the valve cover with your oil. For the crankcase drive it for a very short drive to get it worked around then change your oil normally.

There is a chance. The only way Seafoam will harm any gaskets or seals is if the gasket or seal is already shot but is being held together by gunk. Imagine if you have a small leak somewhere that is being blocked by some kind of dirt/debris/whatever. That blockage is preventing leakage. When you use seafoam, it cleans out all that dirt and internal engine goo.

So, Seafoam wont ruin your gaskets or seals, but there is a very small chance that a leak could show up.

Also, if you think you might have a leak somewhere in your exhaust system, you'll find it when you start it up after putting it in the vac line.

Re: 3.1 and seafoam?

Ya I just put seafoam through my camaro today I love it it really made a difference...I put a little more than a third through break booster then split rest between crank case and gas tank...Worked great! Idle is much smoother as well as acceleration is alot smoother all through the rpm range

Great Product for great price ($8)
