Really rough idle
Ok, so I just put the engine back together ahter painting the plenum and TB. Now the idle is really rough and @ about 1000 rpm's. Also, when the car's driving it will cruise at 35 mph, meaning if I get to 35-40 and take my foot off the gas the engine will contibue to run at 1500 or so and the car will stay at that speed.
I took the iac out and cleaned it, sprayed out the TB with some TB cleaner, checked all my vacume lines were connected (3 on the back of the plenum and the 2 goung to the TB). Everything seems to be just how it was so I dont get it???
Anything else I should check? Any thing that's common to forget to hook back up? Anything the paint would have messed up (I brush painted the TB so paint wouldn't get in places it shouldn't be)? Lookin for some help.

I fyou removed the intake, you could have a bad o rleaky intake gasket, same thing for the throttle body, possibly wrong tooth distributor install, possible junk in your throttle body since it was off the car.. my personal experience is that when something(s) goes wrong, it happens to two things at once.

Re: Really rough idle
sounds like a really bad vaccum leak....and btw you don't have to remove the dist. to remove the intake manifold halves. I took mine completely off the motor and painted it with Dupli-Color's red caliper spray paint. it looks awesome! You do have to remove the fuel rail and injectors.

Re: Really rough idle
Right, I only painted the top hald of the intakeso i didn;t even remove the fuel rail..
That's what I was thinking too, but I can't hear one (especially woth how loud the idle is) and all the vac lines seem to be hooked up. The only thing I noticed was I had a hard time getting the 2 lines that go in back, top of the TB back on..

Re: Really rough idle
I've had mine off 3 or 4 times, and i've used the same, stock gaskets everytime, and i haven't had any trouble at all. i just took care of them. and its not hard to remove the bottom half, it just takes some time and patience (sp?). and the red caliper paint looks really good, too. you ought to try it. and yeah, i had a little trouble getting the lines on mine too. you say you only had 2 of them? i have 3 that plug into it.

Re: Really rough idle
start the car and spray some carb cleaner around the intake. if the idle changes, thats where your leak is. same for vacuum lines.

Re: Really rough idle
Well I got the problem. I went out and checked every vac line I could see and they were all good. Turns out the TB wasn't flush with the intake neck on one side. I had looked on the other side and it was ok but the right side had just a little space there. Hard to believe such a small thing like that can make such a big difference :P
yeah the gaskets were all still good, I mean, whats gonna wear them out, air? Haha.
I used some silver engine enamel and think it looks pretty good I'll put some pic of it up. I didnt really want anything to radical so I thought I'd make it shiny again.
