3.4 + manual swap
I have found a pretty good deal on a 96 firebird. The car has not been totalled but it is wrecked pretty bad. Im already planning on doing the 3.4 (2.8 topend) swap but how hard would to be to swap in the manual trans. I have an 88 2.8 auto firebird? Is there a seperate computer for the trans?

Re: 3.4 + manual swap
If its from a '96, it should be a 3.8L. Completely different swap.
No separate computer for the T-5, though if I remember correctly, there is a reason we don't want to run a 4th gen v6 trans....

ah i guess your right, ok so i know to swap in the 3.8 is just as much work as a v8 but i kinda wanna stick with a v6. So do you guys think it would be worth it? Also why dont we want to use a 4th gen trans?

b/c the 4th gen transmission are computer controlled the PCM controls the engine and the transmission.

Re: 3.4 + manual swap
You might wanna look into this project a bit closer before you go buy anything. search for it by the user Project85, he attempted this and after like a year, abandoned the swap. I believe he had to swap the dash and all that because of the VATS, and still couldnt keep the car running for more than 3 seconds. This is not a weekend swap by any means. You also have to fab up engine mount brackets, exhaust, and some other misc components.

Re: 3.4 + manual swap
i actually have been reading a lot into it and the guy that did it before said he might still have the engine mounts so i could buy those. exhaust is no big deal, and im thinking i might just do the whole dash swap. im really good when it comes to fab work, but my problem now is the car was in a wreck and the airbags deployed and the car wont start. do i have to use a scanner to reset the ses airbag light and will i have to replace the airbags before i can get the car to run? i dont want the airbags in my firebird please help me figure this out cause its the only thing keeping me from buying the car :P

It will still run w/o the bags, but if i remember correctly, youre going to have to replace the module and your light will always be on because it wont see airbags. You cant just reset the light after deployment.
