Do you have an underdrive pulley?
Because I want to buy one. My serp belt is not long for this world so I figured if the belt needed to be replaced this would be a good time to buy one. I know ASP, and jet make them. I would get it at summit but estimated shipping date is 7/11/09
One question I couldn't seem to find a straigt answer to in my search of previous threads is, how well will the car charge? It says on ASP's website full charge is 900rpm, which doesn't seem too bad, if it's correct. my car idles around 6-7K so any gas would charge the battery. I'm just lokin for the opinions of those who have had or still do have them.
I've seen some of you say you took the one you bought off so I hope someone has one they'll sell me.

I've had the crank pulley from asp on mine for about 2 years now and i haven't had any problems with it keeping the battery charged.

Thank you those of you who replied, guess people who have them don't have problems with them.
I'm in a deal with grimmcs to trade pulleys with him.

get the underdrive pulley, i got one and its the best investment i made, it does not affect charging at all, the UD crank pulley definitely freed up some HP and MPG i highly recommend it

Anybody know what size belt I'll need? My car still has the AIR pump and A/C. I've heard like 3 inches shorter than stock, but what would that length be?

Crank and alt pulleys for about 6 years now. I've had battery issues ever since. I have to change them out about every year. Lame. Seems like just the crank pulley is the way to go....
Since you are trading, just trade the belt too.

Re: Do you have an underdrive pulley?
Yeah, The alt pulley makes the alternator spin too slow. I'm only getting the crank UDP. I'll have to see if he'll send the belt or if it's any good.
I've got a question. How does the tensioner work on these cars?? I've looked at it and it doesn't see obvious to me. what do you gotta do to get the belt loose?

If its not any good, he should be able to at least get the numbers off it.
Take a ratchet to the tensioner. 15mm (i think?) socket, turn clockwise about half a turn, belt is loose.

Re: Do you have an underdrive pulley?
OK, i know the tensioner's gotta be that thing right next to the alternator but I cant figure out what to do to loosen it. Is it spring loaded like the ones on newer GM cars? What bolt do I gotta loosen? A pic would be great..

Re: Do you have an underdrive pulley?
You don't have to loosen any bolts. Just twist the bolt in the middle of the tensioner pulley and rotate counter-clockwise. It will lift right up and release the belt tension.

Re: Do you have an underdrive pulley?
I got the pulley installed today and love it so far. The volt gauge stays at around 14 even at idle, so I guess I wont have charging problems. The power difference is also noticeable.
Thank you Grimmics, your pulley will be coming in the mail shortly.
Oh, and I found that the tension is about the easiest thing to use ever, lol.
