it runs!!!!!!!!!! but no theres stupid little problems

well my camaro finally runs!!!!! 1984 2bbl 173 cuin v6 backed by a 5spd. now heres the dealo, the guage cluster is out of a z28...so im thinking the right senders arent in it but the tech says its ideling at 3500, and it sounds like it. cant figure out why, and ajusting the idle screw does pretty much nothing. any ideas?

and bout this gauge cluster when the head lights are on the volt, oil, and tech dont work. but when its off or if the dash lights are off when the head lights are on the tech and volt works. the oil pressure isnt working period, ideas? im thinking the cluster is bad or hooked up badly.

theres more but i forgot lol. ill keep posting

Your cluster is out of a V8, if you pull the RPM gauge from out of the cluster, you will see that it says for usage w/V8's only. Try to get your hands on a V6 RPM gauge, take apart your V8 cluster, then put it in place of the V8 one. You also need the correct senders. As far as idling @ 3500-RPM (if you really are, because your RPM gauge is currently inaccurate with the V8 gauge), then it more than likely is a sticky choke, and/or a vacuum leak somewhere....

Re: it runs!!!!!!!!!! but no theres stupid little problems

Don't mean to jack this thread but what's the easiest way to find out if a tach is for a v8 or v6? Other than how it's marked on the back, since I'll probably be buying one off ebay. Is the redline different?
Thanks
Alex

Re: it runs!!!!!!!!!! but no theres stupid little problems

ya the redlines are different, same with the oil pressures. and i was thinking maybe ill just get a v6 cluster, since the techs and oil pressure are different. but i do like the 145 speedo. are the v6 techs cheap? and i need the sender for oil pressure correct?
any idea on the electriclly?
and to think bout it i have two open vaccum places...but nothing i can see connects to them...ill get pics to show what im talking bout. and also the idle screw wasnt going down like it should, got wd40 in it but the guy said it could be going bad, th canister thing. thx street lethal

[QUOTE/]

Well there's your problem. You gots a huge vacuum leak, show us some pics, you might just need to plug the holes.

V6F1R3BRD: Yup, plugs right in, you just have to change the sending units for the oil press, coolant temp, and apparently the tach.

Does anyone know what the redline is for a v6 tach?
Thanks

Re: it runs!!!!!!!!!! but no theres stupid little problems

pics here, http://img29.imageshack.us/gal.php?g=phto0040.jpg
the first pic shows the t thing at the back of the carb, no place on the carb for it and no other lines there missing.
the second pic shows the front where a canister isnt hooked up, the other one that has a line is the idle one, which may or may not being going bad
the 3rd pic shows that green wire thats runs next top the alternator but theres no connection for it, anywhere.
the 4th pic show yet another wire not hooked up with no clue to as where it goes, this one is on the back passenger side.
the 5th shows dum dum dum a 3rd uncoonected wire!!!! but this one is on the driver side back.
the 6th is a different angle with more light the pic 5.
ant the last pic shows that thing right behind the oil fill and before the wires...the bottom looks like a vaccum connect but im not sure so i ask is it?

thanks for all the help guys/girls

Re: it runs!!!!!!!!!! but no theres stupid little problems

You just need the large bell-shaped oil psi sender and v6 tach. You'll have to route wiring for the psi guage, you can't just swap sensors/plugs. CTS should work fine with the guage- I don't think there's a difference, but don't take my word for that. The 'redline' on the guage is supposed to represent the max 'safe' rpm of the motor it came with. Stock 2.8's hit valve float at about 5k. The 't' probably connects to something on the underside of the air cleaner, The vac solenoid w/o anything on it is probably... for the secondaries I'm guessing?? Get a chilton's (better then nothing) and start looking at the vac/wiring diagrams. If you can't identify them just plug them off and insulate the wires w/ tape.

Probably a dumb question, but does your car have the original engine and hood? If it does, then you should try to find the emissions stickers (may be covered in soot or other crap). One of them has the vac hose routing on it, or it SHOULD have the hose routing on it...
