I am having hard times to install my fuel injectors back into the manifold, I am able just to push the injectors on one side of the rail in and am unable to push the other in. It seems like there might be a special tool for it. Anybody knows how to get it in or where to get the tool for it?

 

no, they just push in. did you lubricate both surfaces with motor oil first, and did you repalce the o-rings?

 

yes, i replaced the o r-ings and lubricated them, but it seems like they go further down on one side then on the other. Well I am asking because I cant start her now, so I tought maybe there is a air leak through the injector. I dont know what else it could be, the engine is rotating but it wont catch. I changed the injector filters, o-rings, pintle caps, got new spark plugs, distributor cap and rotor and a new ECM

 

You just have to kind of fenagle it I'm sure, much like you have to do when removing it, just kind of wiggle it back and forth putting both injector banks in at once I imagine, I doubt you can do it by just getting one in at a time, I mean, its not like the rail will bend or flex to get the other side in.

 

yeah, I played with it over an hour and couldnt just push both sides at once, pressed on it as hard as I could..one side went all the way down and I was not able to push the other in..dont know

 

You sure you had it facing the right direction and everything? The FPR should be towards the front of the car if memory serves.

 

I've got to do this tomorrow... now I'm worried I'll have the same problems

 

Heh, One thing I like about the 3x00 rail, sooooo much easier to get into and out of the manifold, because it has 2 actual rails, and the injectors are near vertical, not like the 2.8 one where they're on the same rail at a 45* angle. Early year fuel injection at its best :P

 

yeah, the position is right, you can't install it backwards. It really looks like there should be a tool for it, there is a channel on the front and back of the rail with couple notches, can imagine how it looks like, just can't find it anywhere..

 

I just looked in my 89 GM service manual, and all it says is "tilt rail to install"

Yeah...having half your engine in your living room has its advantages...but those are offset by the rest of it being 1000 ft away and down a hill not anywhere close to an electrical outlet I can use, or on flat ground to get on jackstands...Wtb garage, well, one thats close to me, I have access to two of them but those are 2 hours away from where I live so that doesn't work....

 

I got my rail in today. I used fresh o-rings, a little clean motor oil, and started at the backof the rail, and worked my way to the front. I had to push the tip of each injector inward a little to get them to snap into place, but eventually they found their way, and one good push right down on the top of the rail seated all of them

there's a little give, left ot right in these things, make sure you're squeezing them inward as a group when you try to work it down... other than that I have no advice, mine went in pretty easy
