hmm what can i do with this thing

Lol what can i do with this god awful intake on my 90 camaro Rs? the things like a giant extra 50 pounds of weight and doesnt even look to work that well. I wanted to take it out and just make a intake outa pvc temporarily but friend told me I couldnt remove it because the engine requires that kind of intake or some bs? any confirmation ? or anybody got what I can use for a new intake because the things so ugly and bulky i just wanna remove it. besides I need a lil extra something because my cars just too slow=P

Re: hmm what can i do with this thing

I have a 3.1 Firebird and the stock intake works good. Your Camaro should have the same unless it has the dual snorkel, which is better.
What exactly dont you like about the intake? It definitley weighs less than a PVC one, and doesn't have the MAF tube like the old 2.8's did... You can replace it but I really gotta ask, why specificly?

just leave it alone, you will gain NOTHING by hacking up the air filter box/tube assy.

Re: hmm what can i do with this thing

If you don't know what you're doing yes, but also depends on what your stock intake is, and Chrisht are you referring to the air intake manifolds, or air filter assembly?

that would be the air filter/inlet tube assy.

these cars had the same air filter/inlet tube for the 5.0-5.7 (TPI) that made 210-240hp so i seriously doubt that the same setup is holding back a 2.8/3.1

I don't think we'll ever see a picture of the elusive 10 pound intake...
