I have a 1992 3.1 v6 firebird with a no start condition

I have already replaced the ignition and got a new key, it ran great for a month or so and it quit running again, but now when you turn the key over the security light stays on what could cause this and/or what needs repaired.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Did you replace just the key or the whole lock cylinder? You may need a new lock. The wires between the dash harness and the lock could be broken (they're really tiny, something like 20 gauge or so).

Does the engine turn over and not fire, or does it not turn over? If it turns over, are you getting a code 46?

Do you still have your old key? Measure the resistance between the pellet and the key itself. And then compare this to the new key. If the 2 aren't the same, you need to get the correct key (dirt cheap on eBay, you just need to know your key code and then you need to have it cut when you get the blank).

If you don't have the old key, you'll need to buy a VATS-pack. A VATS pack is a set of 15 resistors that you would plug into the connector where the lock connector plugs into the dash harness. One of them will allow the engine to run.

Find where the key cylinder plugs into the harness. Unplug it. Put the resistor or other wire in the holes and tape liberally to make sure it doesn't come loose. Try to start engine.
